The Masque of the ’vid Death

I have no idea what kind of a “gotcha” you think this is supposed to be. The greatest benefit from vaccination is that it reduces your chance of serious disease by more than 90%. Therefore most people want to be vaccinated as soon as possible. Allowing someone to jump the queue is rewarding them.

What on earth is so difficult about that? Do you have anything substantive to add, or just this perverse nitpicking?

I honestly have no idea what gotcha or whatever the fuck you’re talking about. “Vaccines aren’t a reward” is not remotely a controversial statement. Except perhaps for clinical trial volunteers. Which doesn’t actually seem to be happening for the placebo groups.

(The main purpose of my OP is a bitter backhanded swipe at the dickholes advertising a “secret New Years Party! wink wink.”)

Lessee, preliminary reports are that even just the first dose of vaccine confers about 75% immunity or so, which is way better than none when you’re talking people with serious superspreader habits. How about we go ahead and advertise the HOLY FUCK outta these NYE parties then once they’re in full swing we blockade the doors, send in sharp shooters with tranq guns, or I guess flooding the space with sedative gas but the tranq guns would be more fun–anyway, knock the whole lot down and vaxx them all. Quick tattoo a DS (for dumb shit) on their faces and stick a post it note on each dumb shit with a coupon for free laser removal of the tattoo when they come back in for dose #2. As a plan, it has much to recommend it and the method takes a lot of the sting out of them being moved to the front of the line. Let’s face it, being treated like recalcitrant baboons on an especially gritty episode of Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom is gonna sting a bit even for a dumb shit.

Given the general tone of the OP and many of the responses, this is better suited to the Pit than the Quarantine Zone. The move will also allow some of the participants in the thread to be more freely addressed.

I got that. But if we really thought immunizing reckless people was the best way to control the damage (not the case count!), I would be all for it. That’s not rewarding their behaviour. They obviously don’t give a crap, so they probably wouldn’t see it as much of a reward either. “Because I party all the time, I got the vaccine early. Now I get to party all the time.”

I can endorse this plan. I especially like the tattoo removal as incentive for the return dose.

Thanks. I wasn’t sure about the right place for this, and went back and forth in my head. I tried to keep the OP a little softer and non-profane, but I guess you’re right, considering the ultimate intent.

Anyway, now I’m free to tell @SayTwo that he quotes news excerpts the same way Jimmy Savile offered candy.

I’ll also say it takes a seriously bizarre understanding of human nature and logic to think someone who is scared enough to want an early vaccine will indulge in risky behavior to “queue jump” to get said vaccine. Unless, I suppose, you are one of those people that think “vaccination passports” are a great idea for day to day business.

We are, of course, discussing a cohort of the population whose “logic” is seriously bizarre.

ETA: I’m all on-board, by the way, with Broomstick’s suggestion of forcibly administering these vaxxes by holding the participants in cattle chutes. While they’re there, they can conveniently be fixed in other ways too. (Some of them, anyway.)

You’ve got it backwards. We wouldn’t be rewarding the idiots–we would be rewarding the innocent people who would otherwise get COVID from the idiots’ irresponsible behavior.
