The Melania movie reviews are in! (they're not good)

My WAG is twofold:

  • Many people feel that she’s quite attractive (in an unapproachable ice-queen sort of way), so there’s probably a lust aspect to some of their support of her.
  • She’s not just a trophy bride, she’s Dear Leader’s trophy bride.

And, honestly, mostly because of #2. If she were just one more 50-something former model, she wouldn’t be on MAGA nation’s radar at all.

Because making it about Melania means it’s straightforward to pay the bribe.

Melania Trump earned $28 million from the film

A neo-republican relative was watching a commercial for the movie with my daughter during a football game a week ago and remarked, “She’s really a classy lady.”

Given the (I imagine) lack of car chases and massive explosions, it should be easy and cheap for some imaginative comics to make a full length parody movie.

Starring that woman who appears as her occasionally on Colbert’s show.

I’d like a scene wherein she’s snatched up by aliens and whisked into outer space, like that incongruous scene in Life of Brian, and then deposited back as if nothing happened.

This is the kind of thing of which some people normally would say “I refuse to give them money, I’ll wait until it’s pirated to see it.”

Then I wonder who would bother spending time and bandwidth to pirate this.

Needs more dragons.

Was that an actress or AI? I couldn’t decide.

Melania herself is pretty artificial looking and behaving. Perhaps she’s an AI bot.

That would explain how she’s managed to stay married to you-know-who all this time.

My understanding is that they have separate bedrooms and in general have very little to do with each other, which suits them both fine. True love this is not – it’s a business arrangement.

Her name is Laura Benanti, and she’s primarily a Broadway actress. Sometimes at the end of one of her bits, they’ll pull back to a wide shot of the stage and you’ll see her at one corner in her little set, and Colbert at his desk in the other corner.

She won a Tony award. She can sing, too!

Of that, I’m sure. Still, you’d think she could find anyone else she’d rather spend the best years of her life with, pre-nup or no pre-nup.

Benanti looks intelligent. Not a good fit to play Melania, who just looks somehow vapid and non-human. But if you like vapid and non-human, I understand this movie will treat you to two hours of it!

A lot of that can be achieved w make-up.

If you look at the kind of magazines that rich women read, the ads are for $10K purses, $20K dresses, & $100K bracelets. If that cheap.

Most of the very thin, very beautiful (not pretty) models affect that same haughty distant look that clearly signals everything they survey is far beneath them. Even the product they’re shilling.

That image sells well to those folks. Melania has it down cold. Ice cold.

With appropriate makeup a skilled actress like Benanti could nail that look and behavior.

I’ve never seen Melania look any other way, in any setting. It’s a signature look, just like the Orange One with his constant scowl. Neither one of them ever looks genuinely happy, and probably neither one of them realizes how clearly they’re radiating that fact. I’m pretty sure that with Melania, that dead, vapid look is authentic, not makeup.

You’re probably right.

My point was solely that any actress of the right general facial features can pull off that look.

Triumph of the Melania

You’re going watch Melania and you’re going to like it:

“Nobody that I know wanted to go except for those that did not want to get jacked up by our unit commander for not attending,” one of those members told Weinstein in a letter seen by journalist Jonathan Larsen.

The unit commander in question is alleged to have worn red MAGA hats in the past and “made it very clear” how he feels about those who do not support the administration’s agenda.

He is also alleged to have made seeing Melania count as one of the three “unit activity events” service members are required to attend each month. Such events are designed to promote bonds within combat units and their families.

The letter said, “…he ‘advised’ our unit members and their families to join him and his wife and children for a showing of that new documentary called ‘Melania’ at an off-base movie theater… When he said ‘advised’, we know what that meant.

“We feel helpless to try to fight against what he is doing here.”
