In all of its seamy bemused beskinned in your face slightly inebriated New York Brooklyn Glory !!!

The bare essentials on the history of said parade.

Missed it this year, but participated in the crowdsource funding that kept it from being canceled by the NYPD. ( Costs of proper policing had it shut down this year. Funds were raised, Mermaids were paraded !! )

It is a sight to behold.

Any Dopers behold it this year or in years past??

I put this in Cafe Society because, well, frankly nothing says “Leisure Activity” like a Mermaid Parade.

I mean, the only more sophisticated activity at Coney Island is the Hot-Dog Eating Contest.

Oh no kidding! ! Imagine the high point of your competitive year being an announcer proclaiming, " It’s been eleven minutes and he has yet to vomit! !!! " :eek:

I’d like to go but so far I haven’t been in NYC at the right time. I’m hoping to have better luck with the GV halloween parade this year though.

I went several years ago and I wasn’t tons of impressed. It felt like it was about 150 degrees the entire day and seeing weirdos in costumes isn’t something I need to go all the way to Coney Island for, quite frankly. After about 2 hours of trying to figure out why the hell people thought it was fun my friends and I walked over to the NY Aquarium and had a fabulous time there instead.
