The mission: House for a dog.

Hey all. Some of you may remember the continuing saga of Roxie, the pure-bred rotweiler that my friends rescued from the neglect of their neighbors. In the three months since, Roxie has become quite social and much more healthy (although the vet says her formative years will make it so that she’ll probably be a runt most of her life). She’s a really great dog. The problem is, both financially and logistically, my friends cannot keep her.
So, after wrangling around with all three of their dogs this weekend, I promised them I’d put out a call. If any of you out in the Chicago area want a very loving 3-year old rot, or know someone who does, please let me know. The dog’s a good dog, and needs a good home currently. I, my friends, and Roxie, thank you in advance!

I’m not in Chigago, but I’m a big rottie fan. And I have done rescue and lived with my mom’s rescues for years. So this advice is coming from some experience.

If you haven’t done Rottie rescue before, get help. There will be too many people who want the dog because it’s a rottie, and therefore a guard dog/a tough dog/a vicious dog and you may not know how to root them out. You may also encounter good people who just don’t know how to care for such a large and energetic breed. (Even if she’s small, she’s large.)

Contact the American Rottweiler Club, and find your local Rottie club. You can still foster this cutie, but this way you know what questions to ask and you make sure you have any and all the guidence you need.

If you have done Rottie rescue before, disregard (or get help if you need someone else to foster her).

Good Luck to you, your friends and especially Roxie.
