I had a similar experience with my mother upon her death. I know exactly what Patti is saying about a lovely death. God bless her and her family.

I also object to the glurge factor. But, in this case it can be refuted by information on Alzheimers. What (if anything) happened to Reagan after he died is a topic for GD. Whether he could recognize anybody or have a coherent thought in endstage Alzheimer’s is a matter of scientific fact. He couldn’t.
My grandfather had Alzheimers, as well as Parkinsons, and cancer. The last clear thought he expressed was to me, after spilling a cupful of water on himself as he tried to take a sip. “I’m tired of living like this. I don’t want to do it anymore.” A week later he passed, with no further “moment of clarity”.
I also watched my mother pass away after a battle with leukemia. Her eyes were completely expressionless, as if she was staring at something off in the distance.
Her eyes were focused and bright two days earlier when she said her goodbyes, however.
If Ms. Davis believes that her fathers eyes were “clear and blue and full of love”, then I envy her that memory of her parent’s passing, but I will not begrudge her the comfort it brings her.
