I’ll second The Cell and actually would choose Hero over crouching Tiger, hidden Dragon and House of flying daggers for its way of incorporating the colours of each ‘chapter’
I did, up in post #27 ( and which has been quoted a few times). But I know from experience that it’s easy to miss these things.
I have a really hard time deciding the ‘most’ or ‘best’ of any film but one still not mentioned is
Mirrormask just the opening credits are a good example of the style.
One can see the “The Blade Runner” over and over, and it’s visual impact never falters.
When I saw this at first I thought you meant Sunshine. Sunshine has a few plot holes (I liked the story in spite of them, but I know a lot of people didn’t), but I don’t think anyone can argue that the movie isn’t gorgeous.
The Sound of Music, especially the opening credits.
I’ve heard The Sheltering Sky is quite highly regarded…
I agree. I only saw Hellboy II: The Golden Army because I’d seen Pan’s Labyrinth and I was told it was directed by the same guy (Guillermo del Toro). Visually stunning, both of them. The race of Prince Nuada and Princess Nuala’s people in *Hellboy *are the best examples of tree-elves I’ve ever seen.
My gorgeous movie pick: Maborosi.
Another vote for Hero.
It’s been awhile since I saw it, but I seem to remember *What Dreams May Come *as being mentioned on a lot of beautiful-film lists at the time (and I remember agreeing with that).
Absolutely! And I agree with Bladerunner, too! Legend is quite stunning, as well!
