The Most Important Debate of our Times: Who Should Voice Rocket Raccoon

So, Guardians of the Galaxy is getting into gear. Most of the cast has been signed. The biggest question left is, who will voice the beloved alien ass-kicking Rocket?
Should it be a recognizable actor? Or should it be one of the many talented voice actors, a field in which there are pretty amazing talents?

My first pick is Gideon Emery, the voice of Fenris from Dragon Age 2.

Here’s a snippet of his voice work.

What are your suggestions?

Harlan Ellison.

I was gonna suggest Stan Lee, but Harlan Ellison’s a much better suggestion.

If we’re going for completely unlovable, he would win hands down. It’s an interesting suggestion. Robin Williams called him a “Borscht Belt comedian in the body of a sci-fi writer.”

I was going to suggest June Foray, but then I looked him up on wikipedia, and changed my mind.

Seth Green? I’m pretty sure he already is part raccoon.

Too goofy. Rocket has a permanent mad-on and no patience what so ever.

So give Christoph Waltz a triple espresso.

I always pictured him as British, Cockney even. I don’t know why. But, Waltz is an inspired choice!

Clint Eastwood
Hugo Weaving (It would be nice to see him as a good guy, amIright?)
Frank Welker
Tommy Lee Jones

Not sure I agree with this. In Guardians, he was always a fairly well rounded character.

…that… that might just be perfect.

When I heard Michael Rooker had signed on, I was sure he was going to be Rocket, but alas that’s not the case. I think he could have worked. My guess is, one of Gunn’s stable of regular actors will get hired on, so there’s a possibility it could be Nathan Fillion. Though, I don’t think he would fit.

What about Adam Baldwin?

I’ve heard that name tossed around quite a bit. I’m ok with it, but the directors description of how they’re going with Rocket is (and I quote) " a mangled beast". Somehow, I don’t get the deranged vibe from Baldwin. However, I’ve been unsure of most of Marvel’s casting decisions thus far and I’ve never been happier to be proven wrong. So you just never know.

So, back to Harlan Ellison. Or Bobcat Goldthwait.

Robert DeNiro, maybe? YOU TALKIN’ TO ME???

Denis Leary?

I would squee with delight if it was Bobcat!!! I’m going to start a campaign now.

Bumping for today’s breaking news: it’s apparently Bradley Cooper.
