Good pick and probably what I would go with. There is no sweeter movie in the world, though I would not have wanted to see it as a double-bill with Graveyard of the Fireflies.
Ebert got it right by saying:

To Kill a Mockingbird
Yes.
Julie and Julia. A woman’s movie about women in which their husbands are actually good guys.
Hey, any movie where enlightenment is achieved through sex and art can’t be too hokey.
Amelie was the one I thought of after reading the OP.
Waking Ned Devine is a sweet film makes me feel good all over, even if it is about cheating.
Though, come to think of it, why should I feel good at the sight of
a naked old skinny guy riding a motorbike through the Irish countryside, hellbent-for-leather?
Because it is the funniest thing ever? Seriously, when I saw that in the theater my roommate laughed so hard the whole row of seats shook.
Hard to say. Probably Blue Velvet.
Dear Frankie…
Absolutely agree:
Elwood P. Dowd: Years ago my mother used to say to me, she’d say, “In this world, Elwood, you must be” - she always called me Elwood - “In this world, Elwood, you must be oh so smart or oh so pleasant.” Well, for years I was smart. I recommend pleasant. You may quote me.
And now, for my own submission.
I know I will get a lot of crap about this, but I suggest Touched by an Angel. Sweet and kind-hearted, not preachy, Della Reese was great, and Roma Downy more than kinda hot. Plus, how can you hate on any show where the angel of death is played by a guy named Dye?
A few years ago a little independent movie called The Visitor came out that I think is one of the best movies of the past decade, and it really hits all the right notes for this thread.
Well worth checking out…
Psst. See the OP.
But, fwiw, I concur heartily.
:smack:
I actually bought a copy (a used DVD for 99 cents) without knowing anything about the movie whatsoever, and it’s one of the happiest accidents of my entire entertainment-related life…
Holy moly, it was released as a double-bill with Grave of the Fireflies!
Sounds like an absolutely insane double-bill to me.
What’s next, a double-feature of Bambi with Come and See?
