The most prominent Skakespeare character?

Which of the characters in Shakeseare’s plays has the most lines? My English teacher made a passing mention of this last week. (I’ve forgotten who he thought it was :o… Iago?)

[sub]And does this go in GQ or Café Society? The first-page CS threads looked more like polls or debates than factual questions, so I put this here…[/sub]

Probably John Falstaff, since he’s in three plays.

I’m pretty sure it’s Hamlet, or possibly Richard III (who appears in three plays). Can’t say for sure, though – all my books are at home.

Falstaff is a minor character in two histories, and a major character in a comedy.

But Henry V also appears in multiple plays, and probably has more lines overall.

My thought on reading the title was Falstaff too, since he shows up in more than one play, but he doesn’t do a whole lot of talking (too busy boozing and trying to womanize). Henry V does quite a bit of talking too, but Hamlet seems like a reasonable guess.

My book’s in the car.

OK, found it:

  1. Which Shakespeare character has the most lines in a single play?

Correct Answer: D. Hamlet
Hamlet, with 1569 lines, has the most lines of any character in a single play. **Henry V, however, speaks the most lines of any character (if we combine his lines in Henry V, and 1 and 2 Henry IV). ** (bolding mine)

Nice work, astorian!!
