The most sadistic show on televison

While channel surfing only moments ago I saw a commercial for yet another gem from our good friends at Fox.

Who’s Your Daddy?
The premise is pretty much like a lot of the other reality shows out there but instead of getting a spouse or money the contestants have to choose their real father, Whom they have never met before, out of a group of several men.
How low can TV get now? Making someone try and guess who their father is has got to be the most cruel idea for a show ever. I’m sure that the contestant will also have to go through all kinds of games and competitions as well. What kind of sadistic bastards come up with this shit?

I’m sure I heard a comedy routine about a show like that at a stand-up…

Oh dear!

I thought Fox had plumbed the depths with The Swan, a program which strikes me as the ultimate in dispicable ‘entertainment.’ (You’re so ugly, we’ll make everything better by giving you plastic surgery… Here you are, fit to live amongst normal people now… Never mind half of you, you are still to ugly to be winners).

My brain cannot process if this is worse or not.

After “Married by America”, the gates of Hades opened wide.

You missed the money part.

If she guesses right…she gets 100k$

If she guesses wrong the guy she picked gets 100k$.

Money makes it ok…right? Right?

I heard about the premise of this yesterday on the radio, and I agree it’s absolutely sickening. I thought they’d hit rock bottom with “The Swan,” but obviously I’m wrong.

The only thing sicker is that I heard about it on Rush Limbaugh. He, of course, said that the show ought to be moderated by Rev. Jesse Jackson. And the panelists should be Bill Clinton, Kweisi Mfume (I think), and the real father.

Way to slander somebody, Rush.

The weirdest thing is my complete lack of surprise at this. I know I should feel something. Outrage, nausea, shock and horror. But no, not a thing.

I guess it’s just the next logical step in the freak show progression.

Speaking of steps, how many left until we get to the murder reality show?

I saw this exact same stunt (minus the money) on the Montel Williams show a few years ago and was completely appalled. I’m not at all surprised by this.

Hey I’m all up for a murder reality show. It would be a lot more realistic than all these other shows.

Maybe they should start televising gladatorial events. Real ones with lions and swords and such.

Never happen. For starters, good luck teaching a lion to use a sword. They don’t even have opposable thumbs. And of course PETA would never let it happen

Has to be person v person. We could probably start off using prisoners. Scott Peterson v someone else for example. Wouldn’t get too many complaints there. Then you slowly work your way up to the average Joe/Jane types. :stuck_out_tongue:

I heard of this show by way of an adoption advocacy group. Here’s a link to one story with more details.

Gotta love this quote from one of the producers:

Yup…that really sounds like:

Adoption groups seem to be working pretty hard to lobby against this show, so I wonder if it will ever actually make it to air.

Dammit, I shouldn’t have met my father for the first time last year :frowning:

Every time they hit rock bottom, they get out jackhammers and start digging.

There’s one thing I’ve never understood about people getting upset about these shows. You all realize that if there wasn’t anyone signing up to participate, there would be no show, right?

I can see the upset to be had over stuff like the Hoax, where half the people didn’t know it was for a tv show. But going into a deal where you know it’s going to be televised and there’s a chance you’re not going to win the cash and prizes and may even be heartbroken? If you don’t want to take that risk, try to fulfill yourself in other ways than reality television.

This is like feeling sorry for people on Fear Factor if they eat all the gross shit but don’t win the big prize. It almost amuses me how people get so worked up over Fox doing these shows while I never see anyone ranting about Jerry Springer.

There would still be plenty to complain about, since the people putting the show together (and perhaps the actors) are demonstrating a lack of conscience. I think people - stupid ones, sure - often sign up for these things without realizing what they’re getting into, because it if wasn’t psychologically torturous, nobody would watch. Oh well. Yet another horrible-sounding show I won’t be watching. I’m another one of those people who thought nothing could sound more wrong than The Swan, but I’ll learn my lesson this time.

When I saw this thread, I first thought of that horrible show that Shannen Doherty was hosting that I can never remember the name of. You know, that one where they made people think they were dying, or that someone had just fallen off a building, then let them know they were JUST KIDDING! Ha freakin’ ha. Gotcha ya.

We live in very strange times.

I understand that point. So why is it that if the producers are preying on people, there aren’t major organizations calling for boycotts, suing the network, bring suits for indecency?

I don’t watch reality tv anymore, either. The last one I followed was Joe Millionaire. (And yes, I thoroughly loved that one. Great premise) I have no dog in this fight, just trying to point out that the producers aren’t forcing people to participate.

I’d love to win the prize offered in He’s a Lady, I just won’t subject myself to what has to be done. If someone else wants it bad enough, he’ll sign up for it. (And many guys did) Same with Gilligan’s Island, Survivor, et al. Some want the prize so badly, they’ll do anything, including humiliating themselves.

I’m surprised there isn’t more support for these shows on these boards as they show the rampant greed of the contestants. And greed is bad, right?

:smack: Forgot to preview. The above was a response to Marley23.

What would the advocacy group be? “Americans for the Protection of Dumb and Greedy People?” Every show these days seems to upset some group or other. I don’t think any of them have been scrapped, but I don’t know what happened to that “real life Beverly Hillbillies” idea. “Amish in the City” drew some controversy too. The reason there aren’t bigger protests? I don’t know. Perhaps they realize it would be futile?

Wha? I think that’s exactly what people are complaining about: yes, the contestants are greedy, but often they are reviled and humiliated in front of millions of people (who love it). Seems a little too cruel a punishment for your average moron.

It’s still better than “The real Gilligan’s Island”.
