The most you've ever spent on a SINGLE article of clothing

So, suits would not could, for example. Shoes count because they are a unit.

I am not a clothes horse. I am comfortable in a pair of shorts and a t-shirt. Designer labels? HA! When Tommy Hilfiger wants to start paying me to wear his clothes, I’m there.

The most I’ve ever paid a single article of clothing is $95 for a pair of Timberline* shoes. Worth every penny, lemme tell ya.

As for the rest, I’ve never paid more than $30 for a pair of pants or $15 for a shirt.

*note: I don’t consider Timberline to be a “designer” label.

Would not COUNT. PREVIEW, dammit!

$4,678 on a wedding dress. (that does not include the fittings)

Married for just under 18 months.

Works out to $8.60/day. Damn.

Anyone wanna buy a used wedding dress?

That would have to be the wedding dress for me, too, although mine was only $400. Next most expensive item of clothing I’ve ever bought would be my full-length black leather coat, which ran me about $300.

I did pay $115 for a pair of shoes once, but they were Ecco walking shoes, and worth every penny. That was four years ago and those shoes look as good as the day I bought them.

$165 for a gore-tex anorak. I got it for 60% off. I’ve worn it for 10 years, everywhere from the Caribean to kayaking off Vancouver Island.

Around $100-$200 for fancy, elegant dresses. I only own two, one which I’ve used various times and my prom dress, which I’ve only used once but would like to use again.

I usually use the clothes again and again until they become faded, torn, or are too big/small for me.

$350 for a bridesmaid’s dress. It barely fit, I couldn’t get a bra that fit and was backless and I knew I’d never wear it again, so…

That dress became two pillows on my sofa. I probably could have made at least three, but I got bored.

My mom spent about 20000 rupees on a sari. That’s about $500, give or take. That was the one with real copper thread. The sari with real gold thread would have been upwards of $1200

I spent $89 on a top. It’s red and flowy.

I bought a hot pink stonewashed denim jacket that looked SOOO good with my crimped blue and pink hair. Paid for it with my first Taco Bell check, waaaay back in '86. I paid at least eighty bucks for it.

I don’t believe I’ve ever spent that much on even a full outfit since. Yes, that’s just how cheap, er, frugal I am.

$225 on a formal dress. I’ve worn it only three times, and the last two weren’t occasions when I really needed to wear it – more like “Well, I’ve already GOT this damn thing, may as well get dressed up a bit so it’s not completely useless.”

The next most would be about $40 for a pair of shoes.

My senior prom dress was about $100. It’s very plain and in a color I absolutely adore so I’m keeping it in case I ever have another function to wear it to. In fact it is what I want the bridesmaids gowns in my wedding to look like. The second-most-expensive item in my closet is a ball-gown skirt made of layers of silver tulle, satin and a sheer overlay. I wear it fairly often (to dances, Christmas parties, etc) because I can dress it slightly up or down depending on the top I wear with it.

In a year or two I’ll have to start looking for wedding dresses but I think I’ll get my wedding gown from the prom rack in JC Penney’s or Sears and spend maybe $100 or $150 on it tops.

I do most of my shopping at Wal*Mart and JC Penney. Jeans run $15-20 and tops $5-20 depending on the store, the style and the sale. All my shoes come from PayLess and the most I’ve ever paid was $25. I have a hard time justifying spending too much money on myself.

Suckers.

The most I’ve ever paid for a single article of clothing is $45. It’s a vintage tan leather coat with a leopard print collar.

at Express Campaign Internationale
I bought a beautiful black sweater which started out at $44, and was marked down to $30.
Its lasted 2 years so far.

$270 for a leather coat.

$130 for a pair of Dr. Martin dress shoes.

That’s really the extent of it. Most of my clothes are pretty cheap.

I spent about $200 an a really GREAT REI parka for WI winters.

I’ve spent as much as $90 on shoes. I think they were British Knight walking shoes.

They were both well worth it.

$150 for a leather trenchcoat. Worth every penny.

$263 for a quality winter coat from LL Bean. I saw it and had to have it. Talk about warm! And the style is not extreme, it should last for decades.

$350 on sale for a buffalo leather duster. I can only wear it in cool or cold weather, but it is worth it.
