So, suits would not could, for example. Shoes count because they are a unit.
I am not a clothes horse. I am comfortable in a pair of shorts and a t-shirt. Designer labels? HA! When Tommy Hilfiger wants to start paying me to wear his clothes, I’m there.
The most I’ve ever paid a single article of clothing is $95 for a pair of Timberline* shoes. Worth every penny, lemme tell ya.
As for the rest, I’ve never paid more than $30 for a pair of pants or $15 for a shirt.
*note: I don’t consider Timberline to be a “designer” label.
That would have to be the wedding dress for me, too, although mine was only $400. Next most expensive item of clothing I’ve ever bought would be my full-length black leather coat, which ran me about $300.
I did pay $115 for a pair of shoes once, but they were Ecco walking shoes, and worth every penny. That was four years ago and those shoes look as good as the day I bought them.
Around $100-$200 for fancy, elegant dresses. I only own two, one which I’ve used various times and my prom dress, which I’ve only used once but would like to use again.
I usually use the clothes again and again until they become faded, torn, or are too big/small for me.
My mom spent about 20000 rupees on a sari. That’s about $500, give or take. That was the one with real copper thread. The sari with real gold thread would have been upwards of $1200
I bought a hot pink stonewashed denim jacket that looked SOOO good with my crimped blue and pink hair. Paid for it with my first Taco Bell check, waaaay back in '86. I paid at least eighty bucks for it.
I don’t believe I’ve ever spent that much on even a full outfit since. Yes, that’s just how cheap, er, frugal I am.
$225 on a formal dress. I’ve worn it only three times, and the last two weren’t occasions when I really needed to wear it – more like “Well, I’ve already GOT this damn thing, may as well get dressed up a bit so it’s not completely useless.”
The next most would be about $40 for a pair of shoes.
My senior prom dress was about $100. It’s very plain and in a color I absolutely adore so I’m keeping it in case I ever have another function to wear it to. In fact it is what I want the bridesmaids gowns in my wedding to look like. The second-most-expensive item in my closet is a ball-gown skirt made of layers of silver tulle, satin and a sheer overlay. I wear it fairly often (to dances, Christmas parties, etc) because I can dress it slightly up or down depending on the top I wear with it.
In a year or two I’ll have to start looking for wedding dresses but I think I’ll get my wedding gown from the prom rack in JC Penney’s or Sears and spend maybe $100 or $150 on it tops.
I do most of my shopping at Wal*Mart and JC Penney. Jeans run $15-20 and tops $5-20 depending on the store, the style and the sale. All my shoes come from PayLess and the most I’ve ever paid was $25. I have a hard time justifying spending too much money on myself.
