As I took a Mississippi river trip upstream from St. Louis to St. Paul, I realized that the mouth of a river is not near its origin but where it terminates.
Can you think of other misnomers to add to the list?

It merely makes the river a deuterostomate!
Makes sense though, what self respecting early explorer would go to the King and ask for funds to explore the butthole of the Mississippi?

The “mouth” of Rome’s Tiber River is/was known as the cloaca.
I’ll be damned. One of my favorite people just returned from a St. Paul to St. Louis trip. Had I known I’d have told you to wave at him in passing.
