The Movies revisited

After reading this CS thread back in 2005 I watched a number of the movies people created using the Lionhead Studios PC game The Movies. I must say that, apart from Quick Nick which Slacker linked to, most of them were not very impressive. However, on a whim I went back to the site recently and took another look around. There are a few real gems.

The Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny is a music video featuring more heroes, villains, and badasses than you can shake a stick at. I guess the Lemon Demon song has been around for a couple of years but this was the first time I’d come across it. The winner of the showdown might surprise you.

Ride the Rent is the well-produced story of Pony Adams, a guy having an awful lot of trouble picking the right horses.

Super Duper Uber Galaxy Force is an absurdist space epic with some great music and voice acting. The jokes are relentlessly cheesy but often side-splitting. The dubbing is also excellent, to the point where it seems like they added some dialogue just to show it off (“Would you like a falafel?”). It’s pretty long but if you get bored, skip ahead to 17:55 for Captain Johnson’s big scene.

These films have some NSFW language, but nothing too horrific. The “Click here to play” links have to be viewed in IE, but you can get the .wmv files directly with the “Download Movie” links.
