The Muppets! New show on ABC

Another vote for disappointing.

I can accept that they decided to take the relatively easy way out and go for “adult” humor only. Let’s face it, making something that works as both at the same time requires a level of genius and inspiration that is a bit too much to expect with key creative parts now gone. Prady worked for Henson but is no Henson … or Oz.

But as an adult comedy it does not work for me. YMMV but the actors (live and voice) seem to be going through motions. Agreed with SuperNelson, the characters are all pretty much unlikable. Hey I can accept that they are no longer lovable weirdos but dang I should at least not dislike them. Kermit without any hesitation or remorse worrying about the success of the show and his job over Piggy’s and the crew’s happiness? A depressed self-absorbed soulless corporate hack who doesn’t really care about anything or anyone and without even any depth? That is neither funny to me or even interesting.

Janice and Floyd both left handed on the original show.

Didn’t love the first two episodes, but I liked them well enough. Will continue to watch expecting the show to hit its stride once the creative team really figures out the best way to put it all together.

With the 2011 movie (which I liked but didn’t love) and its sequel (which I liked better) one aspect that I really liked was the idea that the Muppets were real. They’re veteran performers and celebrities who exist in this world whether they have a current project or not. I like that this show is following that concept.

I don’t have too much of a problem with the performers but I think Eric Jacobson’s Fozzie is off. His Miss Piggy was fairly good to begin with and he got better with each project. His Fozzie always seemed weak until the most recent movie Muppets: Most Wanted, at which point I felt like he finally “got” Fozzie. The first two episodes of the T.V. show, however, seem to show him slipping. Hopefully, having a full T.V. season to work the character will give him a chance to really lock into it then hold onto it.

Ok, what the hell are muppets anyway? So Fozzie is in a park where he’s mistaken for a real bear. So real bears exist that are not muppets. Fozzie’s a muppet bear that somehow is mistaken for a bear in the woods but not while he’s in Manhattan. Bobo the Bear is also a muppet but looks more like a real bear than Fozzie. Is muppetnes genetical? Does Bob have less muppet- and more bear genes than Fozzie?

Are Chip the IT-guy and the woman that met Liam Hemsworth for coffee, instead of Gonzo, muppet-humans? If Liam Hemsworth and muppet-woman have children will they be one quarter muppet?

Is Miss Piggy upset when people eat bacon? Is Kermit afraid to visit France? The difference between animals and muppets is very vague.

Considering what happened in The Muppet Movie, the answer to both these questions is yes.

In The Muppet Movie, the main characters are brothers. One is human and the other is a puppet whose idols are Muppets. There’s no indication that Walter is adopted. There’s also a group of knockoff puppets who call themselves the Moopets.

So all Muppets are puppets. Not all puppets are Muppets.

No no, that in the movie called The Muppets (as opposed to the TV show called the muppets, which is different than The Muppet Show.) (Now I am giggling!)

Muppets are.

So muppets is like a chromosome defect that spontaneously occurs during conception. That has some weird implications. Muppets aren’t really the most physical creatures, unless you get lucky and give birth to a muppet monster, so I’d imagine subsistence farming families in impoverished countries would rather abort than having to take feed a useless hungry muppet mouth.

Because raising muppet babies is a western privilege. #MuppetLivesMatter

Episode three passed the Kids Test. Everyone had their homework done on time, so TV was allowed during dinner.

Everyone got the age appropriate jokes, though I had to explain to Squeaky (6) what Fozzie was trying to get to.

I loved the episode #3 title: “Bear Left, Then Bear Write.”

I remember Kermit telling Fozzie “Bear left” and Fozzie replying “Frog right”. Then didn’t he drive into a fork in the road?

This one was at least Kermit being closer to a Kermit we can like. Someone who cares about his friends.

Best line of Episode 3, in my opinion:
Fozzie: “Have you ever been shot by a tranquilizer gun?”

Kermit: “No, but I did once lick my 3rd cousin and the walls started to melt.”
I contend this is the best song in any Muppet movie. Though the competition is fierce.

I always thought they were grown ups, just happier. Statler and Waldorf, please use them.

Re: Ep. 3. And we’re done. :frowning:

This was true in the original Muppet Show, right? Remember them interacting “backstage” with the real-person human guests.

I’m pretty sure you’re right.

That IT guy was the most freakish-looking Muppet I think I’ve ever seen.

His pupils blink. That ain’t right.
