The Muppets! New show on ABC

Starts tonight!

The premise of the show is that it’s a “The Office”-style documentary (with talking heads and sneaky cameras) about the production of of a late-night talk show starring Miss Piggy. Kermit is the director and Scooter is, duh, his assistant. Fozzie is the announcer and the Electric Mayhem band is the house band. Gonzo and the rats and Pepe are writers. The rest of the cast is various Muppets and humans.

Kermit and Piggy have broken up. Kermit’s got a new pig girlfriend. I forget what Piggy’s status is.

I’ve been watching “30 Rock” on Netflix and the two shows are stunningly similar in feel. Piggy looks and acts much like Jane Krakowski. I know this is weird to say about a puppet but I think she looks great (they have tweaked her look a tiny bit).

Anyway, it was on last night (Monday) in Canada and showed up on my torrent server right away so I’ve already seen the first episode. I’m a lifelong Muppets fan and I thoroughly enjoyed it! I didn’t LOL a ton but it was smooth and fun and I can’t wait for more!

Let me know what you think!

Waldorf: They aren’t half bad.
Statler: Nope. They’re all bad.

Thanks for the reminder. I hope they don’t dwell on the reason for the break up.

I’m guessing the “break-up” is going to lead to eventual reconciliation by season’s end. Regardless, I’m really looking forward to the show tonight.

I know I’m in the minority, but I can’t watch anything with the “new” Muppets. It makes me so incredibly sad to hear the wrong voices come from them. It’s like someone doing an imitation of your dead father and claiming that it’s really him.

I have…issues.

All the voices are really great except maybe Fozzie and Scooter.

I enjoyed the trailer. The best part was when Miss Piggy forgot Gonzo’s name:

Miss Piggy: I want to say…Gary?

Gonzo (Sighs): Let’s go with Gary.

I’ve heard Sam the Eagle will be the head of broadcast standards. I always liked Sam.

“The Muppet Show” was a show about what happens behind the scenes of a big show, so this is modernizing the basic premise.
“The Office” and “30 Rock” were really a knock off of the Muppets.

And yes, Miss Piggy is hot. Except maybe for that time where she had a perm.

You know, for my entire life I knew their names were “Statler” and “Waldorf” after hotels in NYC but I never knew which was which.

I have the series set to record on my DVD. I have been looking forward to the new show.

I want to watch this one too. I know the Muppets don’t quite sound like they did way back when but I thought that the 2011 movie was a great reintroduction and loving tribute. I want more.

I saw a clip with Kermit saying, “My life is a bacon-wrapped hell.” Sam passes by and says, “Can’t say ‘hell’.”

Really looking forward to it. I won’t be able to watch it on Hulu 'till tomorrow, though.

Miss Piggy is probably the only muppet I don’t like. I’m not sure if I’ll watch or not.

I still mix them up all the time.

It’s easy. Statler is the old one, and Waldorf is the grouchy one.

This is hilarious. It’s much more adult than I expected. I’m loving it.

Can Riki Lindhome be in every episode please?

Doh hoh hoh hoh.

I hope so, though oddly it is her partner that loves puppets and Muppets.

I really enjoyed this show. Though my wife and son both gave it more of a meh.

Loved it. I laughed all the way through. My only very small qualm: I’m not sold on Kermit’s new piggy girlfriend. She didn’t sound quite Muppety. I guess I just have to get used to the voice.
