I don’t think it’s a drastic reboot, just some tweaking of a few things.
I think this show would have done a lot better if they just brought back the old format they had back in the day.
Not loving this current version. And this is coming from a guy who usually likes reboots.
The final two episodes of the season are on tonight. ABC hasn’t announced if they’ll renew the show as yet. I do hope it’s renewed next season. I’ve been enjoying it.
I watched a few episodes since the ‘reboot’ and I like it better. The early episodes were too angsty. Miss Piggy was too awful to bear. The newer ones I watched were more Muppets vs bad guy which is more fun.
I soooo hope they bring this back. The writing and the “acting” are just fantastic. Rapid-fire wit, like *30 Rock *or Community.
I don’t think I can live without Uncle Deadly in my life.
Deadly used to scare the crap out of me when I was a kid (he was “the Phantom of the Muppet Theater”), but I think turning him into Piggy’s ambiguously gay dresser was a stroke of genius.
Just watched the finale. My verdict on the season…
…it’s okay. Nothing spectacular, nothing LOL, nothing particularly memorable, just a cute, harmless little puppet show. Toning down the nastiness and cynicism was a great move; IMO this may be what saved it. It’s okay to show Gonzo’s bad decision making, but don’t have him go behind Kermit’s back and all but brag about it. It’s okay to show Miss Piggy’s snootiness and impulsiveness, but an officewide rampage (at not having a date for an award ceremony, at that) that makes us wonder why the hell anyone’s willing to work for her is way over the line. The moments of humanity (Pepe, Rizzo, and Gonzo moving in together, Sam’s attempts to woo Janice, pretty much anything involving Rowlf) were very welcome. I don’t recall any guest stars who really stood out, although Dave Grohl’s insane duel with Animal was pretty entertaining.
Am I hoping for a second season? Truth be told, I don’t care much either way. If there is, fine, if not, I have plenty of other venues for passable laughs.
I think his very first appearance was for the episode that Vincent Price hosted, I know I have always associated Deadly with late great Mr. Price.
So I watched the last two of the season. What the hell is Deadly?
He directs and performs in gender-switched community theatre. He’s proud to be Piggy’s friend but wouldn’t make a move on her. Nothing ambiguous about it.
Love the show, hope it comes back.
He was originally a ghost or demon or something like that. He was the spirit of a frustrated actor who died in the old Muppet Theater and haunted it. Kind of like a Phantom of the Vaudeville.
And at some point later he was described as a Dragon-like muppet. Plus originally he wasn’t even the phantom but some Muppet designed to work with Vincent Price.
I hope they bring it back too. If not, do a spinoff with just Uncle Deadly. Now, there’s a guy who could host a late-night talk show.
I’ve become a real fan of Pepe the Prawn.
Rizzo being fished out of Carl’s stomach, “It looks like an episode of Hoarders in here.”
I’ve really enjoyed the slow arc of the slow transformation from Ms. Piggy’s personal vehicle into the old Muppet show. I’d been hoping that the last episode would end with Kermit himself replacing the DJ as the guest host.
All in all, I really enjoyed this incarnation of the Muppets. Sure it took some time finding its legs, but these are old characters with long histories and the writers are trying to do new things with them. It takes time. I hope they get a little more of it.
The handful of drive-bys with really old bits like Veterinarian’s Hospital and the Mahna Mahna Snowths were fun.
The Muppets cancelled.
Probably no surprise to anybody. The show was criticized as “too adult” and out of step with the Muppets’ history and needed to be retooled mid-season, but I liked it.
Nooooo
Poor Muppets…they’ll never know the joy of their golden years again…
Stupid public :-/
