One thing this movie did: I want more, new Muppet Shows!
There was an article in Entertainment Weekly a while back about Jason Segal’s quest to get this movie made and his meetings with Disney executives to discuss it. He originally wanted to end the movie with Kermit announcing that The Muppet Show would be coming back to television on ABC. But the network basically said “Nice try, Jason” and nixed the idea.
On the other hand, if the movie is a huge blockbuster it would pretty much guarantee at least another movie, I would think. Sadly I don’t think The Muppet Show could be successful on TV these days.
Third greatest gift!
We just got back. I do not know who Jack Black is. I could only spot one cameo (Whoopi Goldberg). The barber shop was doing Teen Spirit? I did not catch that. I was hoping for more Miss Piggy. I also wanted to hear *It’s Not Easy Being Green. *
I am, I suppose an old fart.
The more I think about the film the less I liked it.
If you are interested, go see, then never think about it again.
Why was that Amy Adams? Why cast someone of her caliber of singing and then have her sing down to Jason Segal’s level? Basically it should have been called Jason and Walter and Walter is a lame muppet. He is not a good addition to the team.
I did love the scene with Jack Black and Kristen Schaal and oh yeah, Animal.
Yes! I met him once. He’s originally from Cleveland and still has family here. He and Mickey Rooney, who also had a cameo, were two of the guards in the first A Night at the Museum movie. Too bad they couldn’t get Dick van Dyke, too, so they’d have all three.
I took two of my boys, 12 and 8, who are somewhat familiar with the Muppets. We all liked it well enough, although it dragged a bit at the end. I agree that it was a bit downbeat overall, and would’ve liked to see more of Kermit. The cameos were good, though. I laughed the most when Walter’s human analogue was revealed to be Jim Parsons.
I felt sorry that we only see Molly Ringwald’s name crossed off Kermit’s Rolodex. Did she turn them down? Are they saying she’s a has-been? Ouch. And… Judd Hirsch? James Carville? WTF?
Still, worth seeing for this ol’ Muppets fan.
I’m going to be really disappointed if my idol Bunsen doesn’t almost kill Beaker again during one of his experiments.
You won’t be disappointed then.
You even get to hear Beaker sing a bit!
squee!
If the purpose of the film was to re-introduce the Muppets to a younger audience in order relaunch the franchise, then I think it failed. As someone upstream said, it was forgettable. A new TV series might very well work, but the movie did not help the cause.
Just back from seeing it in the theatre with my two kids - what an absolute delight!
It has been a great Christmas break for films this year!
I’ve been tormenting my wife for weeks by singing, “Am I a MAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNN…”
Saw it Monday night. Unfortunately, it’s already at the local “cheapie” cinema.
Loved it! Loved it, loved it, loved it. Love the original Muppet Show. Want it to come back.
LOVED Animal’s “In control.” He sounded so sad & resigned.
I had the original Muppet Movie soundtrack on 8-track in my first-ever car. Yes, I’m that old. (And that far behind in technology. 8-tracks were already on the way out back then.)
Want more! Want more Swedish Chef. Want more Beaker. Want more An-i-mal. MORE!
