Based on that, I guess it was clearly a muff. Thanks for the information.
Read by me, on a CBS message board, from a Steeler fan arguing passionately that the fact that these two teams have met twice this season already means nothing:
Oh, I know what he’s saying, that the truism hasn’t held true the last couple of times, but the syntax struck my funny bone and all I could hear was John Madden in my head:
“Well, see the thing is, the last time a team beat another team three times in one season, the team that won the first two games, won the third. And that’s what I’m talking about.”
You’ve captured the essence of Madden pretty well. He is one that I will mute for 99%of the game.
Now that’s some dedication. Pittsburgh mayor Luke Ravenstahl changes his name to Luke Steelerstahl.
OK, if we win tomorrow, who do we want to face in the Superbowl? Who should I be rooting for?
My 2 cents - Arizona. I really didn’t think they would beat Carolina; they’re a good team but I think they’re playing over their heads right now.
Man, on HongKongFooey had an opinion? Thanks HongKongFooey!
The Fox pre-game picked the Steelers - clean sweep. That makes me nervous. The gods like to prove the experts wrong!
My biggest concern today is Willie Colon, I can see some long gains being negated by him.
The game inactives have been announced. Rolle is out, Suggs is in; no surprises there. On the Steelers side Anthony Smith is out, that surprises me since it leaveslittle depth at safety.
Oh, I think I’m gonna throw up. C’mon, Steelers! You can do it!
What shitty calls by the ref. I’m in the camp that they gave Ravens that 7 points, but I think that the phantom roughing the kicker was worse. He should hurry up and retire.
Gah, this is tense! Good thing I have a fridge full of beer.
With the Baltimorons down so many DBs it’s likely we’ll see a lot of 4 and 5 WR sets next half, unfortunately our 4th WR (Sweed) can’t catch the frickin’ ball…
Scary looking injury, let’s hope McGahee is Okay.
We’re going to the SUPER BOWL!!!
Woo hoo!!! I thought it was going to be a tough game, but I’m glad we won.
Congratulations to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Y’all won the game, you deserve it, you beat us three times and clearly proved that you were the best team in the AFC. I really thought we were gonna do it, 17-16, after we got our second TD, but Polamalu got the pic and that was all she wrote.
I’m not gonna cheer for y’all, however, I can’t imagine y’all cheering for the Ravens if the situation was reversed. Have your fun, beat the Cards, don’t, we’ll see how it plays out.
But I don’t think I’m wishing for miracles when I say watch out for us next year. Big Ben didn’t get it done his rookie year either, Flacco is the real deal, and with a year’s experience under his belt, he’s gonna be something to see.
GO RAVENS!
GO StEELERS!!!
Thanks, Dave. FTR, I hope Willis McGahee is going to be all right. I thought I was going to be sick, watching them play that back over and over and over.
(I also was pissed that they kept going to commercial after commercial after commercial before the ceremony. Dammit!)
The parking lot at the Science Center is going to be a MESS today. Yuck. I feel for buildings and grounds.
BTW, what do they do with all the extra merchandise, for the losing team? I thought I read somewhere that they send it over seas, to the needy?
The injury to McGahee dampened my joy at the end of the game. I am waiting for an update and hope he is OK. He was moving his arms and legs and it is my hope that they were just being super cautious.
I hope that means more good news to come.
The Steelers beat us fair and square. Maybe next year we’ll have an offensive coordinator who doesn’t play rock-paper-scissors with his hand permanently clutched into a fist.
“First down? Let’s try… giving it to McGahee for a run.”
“First and ten? McGahee, left side.”
“First and ten? Alright, let’s mix it up. McGahee on a delay, right side.”
“Alright, it’s our ball again. Let’s start the series with McGahee.”
“Good old rock. Nothing beats rock.”
“We’ve got the ball back? McGahee, for a run up the middle.”
“What do you mean McGahee’s out? Well, uh… okay, I don’t know, throw it to Heap.”
I don’t think we ever had better than second and five. I’m pretty aggravated. Other than the reverse and the thoroughly uninspired QB keeper attempt, the Ravens’ offense looked like a dim-witted shadow of its usual self. A lot of credit goes to the Steelers’ defense – Polamalu stopping both of Flacco’s runs, for example – but I can’t help thinking that if they’d brought Troy Smith on the field for a few vanilla plays during the first half, they could break out a gadget play in the third quarter, and stay in the game.
Worst case scenario, they give it to Smith to throw and he actually completes a pass. I’ve been whacco for Flacco all season but last night he played horribly lackluster football. Ravens deserved the lost, and Pittsburgh deserved the win. Go demolish those Cardinals and show them that second place in the AFC North is just as good as first place in the entire NFC.
Ha, on the Steelers message board everyone has been fantasizing all season about what we could do with Cam Cameron calling the plays. Mike Tomlin keeps saying the execution is more important than the play call, I like that about him.
Flacco looks an awful lot like Rothlisberger did, next year will be a big year for him.
