The Myron Cope Memorial Steelers March to the Super Bowl Thread

I was talking to a customer today who just got back from Florida. He said that “Stiller” fans far out number the Cardinal fans down there.

Steelers fans probably outnumber Cardinals fans in Arizona…

What are everyone’s thoughts about the big game? All the commentators are focusing on is Steelers D vs. Fitzgerald, that’s not the aspect of the game I’m worried about. I think the D can handle them. I think the toughest match-up for the Steelers will be the interior O-linemen vs. Darnell Dockett and the edge guys trying to pick up Adrian Wilson if he blitzes, sacks aren’t the big worry, it’s the fumbles and INTs that go along with blown protection schemes. Overall though I feel good about the team’s chances.

I have been concerned with our Oline all year. Ben spends too much time looking at the sky. I still think we will win - but that might be reason enough for concern 'cause I’m usually wrong.

On the news tonight, they were showing a family down in Florida that run a restaurant known as “The Pittsburgh Connection”, and they’re majorly HARD CORE “Stiller” fans. The daughter had a shirt that said: “I root for two teams: the Steelers, and whoever is playing the Browns.” If anyone could find that shirt for me, they would be my best friend for LIFE.

My prediction: team leading after the first quarter wins.

One thing to keep in mind about the Steelers D is that, great as they are, they typically give up big yards on the opening drive. Lebeau’s a master at making adjustments, especially now that the secondary is playing so well. I don’t know what to predict in this one. I’m rooting for the Steelers of course but the offense has been so inconsistent this year. I think the offensive lines on both sides will determine the outcome as much as anything. If they give Fitzgerald time to work it won’t matter what schemes Lebeau comes up with. I think we’ll see the Steelers D trying to bust the gaps a lot to blow up their protection schemes, they haven’t done that much this year and it’d be tough for the Cards to gameplan against.

From what I gather, President Obama is supporting the Black and Gold in the Super Bowl too!

(Well, the man obviously has good taste!)

I’d buy that too.

Well, the Cards just screwed the pooch.

Back story: ANY team in the past that has attempted to “desecrate” the Terrible Towel usually ends up losing. Cite

Nice try-but you’re still screwed.

:stuck_out_tongue:

Woohoo! March to the Superbowl indeed! Wow, these sumbitches are trying to kill me! Right down to the end. I guess it makes for a better show, but damn, I woulda preferred a blowout!

6!

Yessir, what a game!

Could’ve easily been a loss but never mind that. I think it’s the worst I’ve seen our D play this year. What a play by James Harrison, that was a big highlight for me,

You posted this August 6, 2008, in the first post of this thread. Kudos on your predictive skills.

In anticipation of Airman Door’s thread of next year, I just want to say that the Steelers have all of two players who will be free agents - Max Starks and Marvell Smith, and 20 million under the cap. Looks like we shouldn’t have too much problem bringing essentially the same team back next year.

Hopefully we can shore up the offensive line and running game.

Don’t forget Bryant McFadden, he played well but I don’t think he’ll be back. William Gay played really well when he was in.

Amen on the running game woes. Winning is nice but it just ain’t the same with a wussy running game. I’m hoping we get Alex Mack with our first round pick. I’m also stoked that Dick Lebeau is back, the day he retires is the day half the D-line retires I think…

Hehehehehhee!!!
