The Mystery of Ned West

I read about this case years ago-however, Google/Wiki have nothing on this.
At any rate, here is what I remember: Ned West was a black man who was arrested for armed robbery-this was in the 1880’s in the American West. He was convicted and sentenced to a term in prison-while in prison, another “Ned West” was arrested for a similar crime, in another state. When their photos were compared, they seemed to be of the same person.
That is all I remember-the conclusion is that they were identical twins, who had been separated at birth.
