Ok I’m bored and kinda curious so why did everone choose there SDMB nickname? I choose mine because mongrel is a nickname and an anagram of my last name, and 8 is my favorite number.
Ralf is a nickname I’ve had since high school and early college years (no, not for doing that kind of ralfing), and coding is what I do professionally, so I put the two together to distinguish me from the other Ralfs I hung out with.
Pretty mundane and pointless, huh?
hung around a while just reading (lurking) before joining and posting.
I have no originality.
Hmmmm. My first name is Pete, last name starts with a P, anybody care to guess what my middle initial is?
Boring, I know.
Well my real name is Chris. A friend of mine used to call me C-Note to be funny. I found that that was very unoriginal, and since I think goats are cool and it rhymes with note, I am c_goat. I also hate to capitalize usernames (from my unix days).
As much as I originally tried to resist, in college my friends began calling me Critter for reasons unknown to me. After awhile I just realized that I should probably just accept the nickname and embrace it…hence my SDMB nickname. Thanks for asking.
Robot Arm is a play on my last name.
Reading that, now I have to pee. :D:D:D
BTW, mine means Average White Boy. :D:D:D Or my initials, take your pick.
My last name is Flynn, and I never really had any cute nicknames until my high school Chemistry teacher called me Flynnstone . . . so there you go.
I used the same name I used to use on a MUCK. It also keeps my real name secret, so I can maintain my alter-ego Super-Friend identity.
Tripler
But IRL, my buds call me “Oswald”
What kinda coding? I’m trained as a medical coder.
I chose mine because I have issues with people mistaking me for a man, and it doesn’t get more feminine than MsRobyn.
Robin
I’m fond of Medea. The literary figure. Sometimes “Medea” is taken. To keep everything the same I’m Medea’s Child everywhere I go.
Along time ago in a galaxy far away…
Okay it was AOL way back when I was a stupid internet newbie, I needed a user name. Every name I chose would come back with “That name is already taken, try ****1234.” Well I didn’t want to be ****1234. Out of the depths of my subconsious came the name Qwisp. It was one of my favorite childhood cereals. (It used to be spelled with a W instead of a U as in Quisp, but I digress)Anywhoos it worked there were no numbers behind it. I have used it ever since and most web sites I register on have it open. If they don’t I use qwisper. either way it works.
Well, I normally just use my real name, but that doesn’t seem to be a going trend around here, so I tacked on a random animal that came to mind… Rather pedestrian, really…
Mnemosyne is the Greek goddess of memory…I figured it would be a funny nick since my memory tends to fail me quite often.
Another nick I sometimes use is starnewt. Comes from two drunken events, the first where a bunch of us girls gave ourselves weird names - I was star, and there was also moon, sun, goddess, and the Woman. As for the newt…someone decided that if I were an animal, that’s what I would be!
Orshee is the name of a character in Richard Russo’s novel Straight Man. The book is set at a small college, and one of the (male) English professors is a big-time feminist. Whenever someone mentions the pronoun “he,” this character jumps in with “or she.” So they call him Orshee.
I am a woman, but I took the name because I love the book and I like the name.
One day I had this image pop into my head of a broken, dirty, thrown-away doll slumped against a wall. Woe is me.
