My first questions, who will be Speaker of the House? Senate majority leader?
Are you asking about the Senate Majority Leader or the President Pro Tempore or both?
Each house has a majority leader and a minority leader, as well as chief whips for each party. The presiding officer of the House of Representatives is the Speaker of the House. The presiding officer of the Senate is the Vice President of the United States and when they are not in attendance, the Present Pro Tempore is the presiding officer.
Unless there’s some seismic palace intrigue in the background I’m not aware of, I think Jeffries is our guy.
I opened YouTube this morning, and looking at the thumbnails, I’ve never seen so many shit eating grins. This is wonderful ![]()
I don’t think impeaching Trump should be a priority. There aren’t enough votes in the Senate for a conviction. However, there should be full investigations into his cabinet and dept. heads. What is the process for impeachment and removal of cabinet officials? Also, not one single judicial or department nomination should be voted on. Lets pull a page from the McConnell playbook.
Congress has the power to declare war, so it stands to reason they have the power to declare peace. I think declaring peace with Iran should be a priority.
I agree not to waste time with Trump. But I think it’s vital to impeach and remove Hegseth, Kennedy and Blanche.
Hegseth is the most critical. We need to reach a deal with Iran to end the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, and getting Hegseth out of the picture is a good start to that.
Indeed. And rein in ICE: that also needs to be at the top of the list.
All of those and everything else. I wasn’t terribly lucid last night when I started this thread.
I could have just said: “The New 2027 Congress. Discuss. Show your work.”

I agree. Trump is yesterday’s news. He’s the old newspaper on the bottom of the bird cage that’s encrusted with shit. I don’t even want a trump tag on this thread!
But Hegseth–he’s gotta go before he does any more damage.
Another relevant talking point is the average age of the new Congress. Talarico was born in 1989–hell, I bought the jeans I’m wearing in 1989! I remember a line from JFK’s 1960 Inaugural Address (I was age 12): “The torch has been passed to a new generation of Americans, born in this century.” He was born in 1917.
Flanagan beats Tafoya in MN! That was supposed to be close, but it was a 10 point rout. Also, good riddance to Collins.
Actually, I think impeaching him is the right thing to do. If nothing else, it will be a litmus test to see how many will cross party lines to do the right thing in the senate. That should be an important message to the remainder of the administration.
This I cannot agree with. Bringing the government to a standstill, any portion of the government, is no go for me. The country still needs to be governed. I can agree with voting no on the nominees until the president (whoever it happens to be) gets a clue and stops sending unqualified people for senate approval.
Treat him like the wannabe mob boss he is: go after the little fish first and use them to build a bigger case. If nothing else, make him squirm and end up with his fat, orange ass in prison.
I like that.
Jared Kushner should certainly be brought in to investigate his obvious corruption. Same with Howard Lutnick and his sons. Also, bring in all the cabinet members who were breaking the law by stumping for candidates.
I wouldn’t bother with impeaching Trump if I were king of the Dems.
We could possibly get a handful of Republicans to vote with us, if they decided that Trump was a sinking ship. But I’m worried about the implications of spending that much political capital (and the opportunity cost of not passing legislation that people like in that time, even if only for Trump to veto it) and then handing the presidency to JD Vance for two years. You’d basically be kneecapping the Dems and handing him an incumbent advantage in 2028.
At this point Trump is a lame duck, it might be better to keep him where we have him while investigating the shit out of him and anyone connected to him. If we do impeach, it needs to come right at the end of his term.
Definitely impeach some Trump appointments though.
I heartily agree. Not only would it be impossible to get the votes and thus a waste of time, it would make a lot of people feel that our number one priority is “revenge” and not the severe problems that got us elected in the first place. It would smack of political pettiness to a number of people.
Now, MY question is: There aren’t enough democratic votes to overcome a veto, so is there really anything major that we can accomplish? More specifically, can we force him to lift the tariffs and cease and desist in Iran? Can he just continue his dictatorial ways and write executive orders that basically curtail our democratic process?
I’m not sure why people think they can’t do impeachment and other things.
His last impeachments it took about week from filing the charges to the House vote. The Senate trials also lasted about a week.
You don’t bother impeaching Trump. What you do is make his life a living hell of continuous investigations into anything and everything he’s ever done.
Hopefully Kegbreath will be impeached, but in the meantime why isn’t he locked up for the murder of the floating survivors of the first Caribbean boat strike? At the time, shoulders were shrugged, and the whole incident was apparently shelved.
