You know, I never “got” the whole Arch Deluxe = adult campaign. When I was a kid, adults ate Bic Macs and Quarter Pounders at McD’s, kids ate hamburgers and cheeseburgers.
A Big and Tasty is more like a Whopper. It doesn’t have the most important part of the Arch Deluxe…that peppercorn sauce! I loved them, and I was only 11 or 12 when they were out, too.
Oh god that sandwich was horrible. I got the bacon cheddar one with a malt swirl for free.
The thing was cold and had no flavor. Even the roast beef did not taste like Arby’s regular roast beef and there was less of it. I guess the half a piece of bacon was suppose to make up for it. The only thing about it that was good was the bun and that is pushing it as it was kind of soggy.
The shake was crappy too. The malt just stuck to the sides of the plastic up so the shake just tasted like a crappy chocolate shake.
Free or not, I don’t think I would feed it to my dog.
That is really good. I order it without the sauce though.
I Love Arby’s
Swing and a miss for the Roast Burgers, However, I’m not giving up on them for one mistake. I have been fairly happy with their offerings recently…
[ul][li]The 2 Beef n’ Cheddars for $4 deal rolls around a few times per year. God bless the Beef n’ Cheddar.[/li][li]The Southwestern Egg Rolls from last month were tasty, but it seems they sold out prematurely.[/li][li]Another Appetizer special, the fried Mac n’ Cheese, was also delicious. It too sold out and was removed from the menu after a short time period.[/li][li]In the fall, they offered 99¢ Arby-Q’s. Surprisingly good value from the usually high priced fast food chain.[/li][li] The Swirl Shakes are a great idea, but poorly executed. You must pitch the lid and straw and eat them with a spoon, scraping the sides for the deliciousness that is stuck there. Trying to scrape it off with the straw is futile, and usually just clogs the straw with an unappetizing goo.[/li][li]Last year, they had Chicken Parmesan and Meatball sandwiches which were heavenly. I hope they bring them back this spring/summer.[/li][li]I love a good french dip, and Arby’s is the only fast food joint to offer one. The older, more traditional version was better then the current “Toasted Sub” variety with cheese, but its still pretty tasty.[/li]Their Ruben sandwiches were OK. I don’t know if they still offer them. I’d prefer a real Ruben, grilled and sloppy as God intended, but where else are you gonna find a Ruben at a drive-thru?[/ul]
It was simply one of the company’s many valiant attempts to introduce children to the adult concept of failure.

I’m quite irritated about the current hot subs they have. At first, they were about 8"… then the last time I went, they handed me something that wouldn’t have looked out of place in Mini Me’s pants.
Culver’s Fish Sandwich–OM NOM NOM NOM NOM!!!
Bring back Arby’s Triple Cheese Melt. Yes, it’s been gone for ten years or so, but still…
exactly what is arbie’s 'roast beef"? It looks like some kind of compounded “meat”-it is gray and appears to have been injected with some kind of chemical broth.
Is it real beef or a synthetic version?
I very briefly worked at an Arbys.
They get “things” of “beef” (not sure what to call them) delivered frozen on a truck. They’re thawed out and cooked at the restaurant. Looking at a whole one after cooking, there’s no grain in the meat, and there’s no fat or gristle on them at all. I’d say it’s a sort of meat paste mashed together in a factory and held together with the chemical broth you mentioned. Something similar to meat loaf, if your meat loaf was injected with dozens of chemicals.
I can well imagine where the Soylent Beef comes from, but picturing the source of “Horsey Sauce” still gives me nightmares.
Arby’s roast beef reminds me of the “Gaucho” brand roast beef that the supermarket sold in big plastic buckets back in the '70s.
I can’t stand arby’s syntho roast beef, but they make a decent Reuben sandwich, and there’s a chicken salad roll-up I like too. They used to make a good fish sandwich for a minute but then they dropped it. Arby’s is at the bottom of my fast food go-to list, and I’d never order any roast beef product from them. I love a home made roast beef sandwich, whole different thing.
Oh, man! I used to order the Beef N Cheddar with the Parmesan sauce… That stuff was sooooooo good!
[Homer Simpson Drool]Parmesan sauce![/Homer Simpson Drool]
I love those Potato Bites at Arby’s, too…

I worked at McD’s when I was 13-14. The McDLT came out while I was there, and one day as I was working the grill, I got a special order. Someone ordered a McDLT with “extra grease.” I am not kidding. So, I made the customer happy: scraped up a huge schlomp of extra grease from the grill and dribbled it on his McDLT patty. Mmmmmm.
We found out later that the customer was some kid who worked at another of the fast food places nearby (this was in a mall food court), and he was getting his boss’s order.

Okay, I LOVE Arby’s, and I will give credit to their Corned Beef Rueben.
I was there yesterday, and a cheery young lady asked if I wasnted to try the new Roastburger. I said, “Yes, but I call it a Super”, and I pointed to the wall menu listed under “Arby’s Classsics”. SAME DAMN THING!
If you don’t remember, the Super was Roast Beef, Shredded Lettuce, Tomato, and Southwestern ranch (the red kind). I always add the Arby’s sauce and Horsey sauce.
What makes it different is the inclusion of the SW ranch…
Hell, I’m late for lunch!
[continuing hijack]
Did it bother you that the cheese on the McDLT was placed in the “cool” side rather than in the “hot” side where it could melt on top on the burger patty like cheese in a cheeseburger should? I think that was the main reason why the sandwich failed.

Incidentally, I had an Arby’s “Roastburger” a few days ago. It was fair but, as it has been already stated in this thread, it’s basically their standard roast beef sandwich on a different bun. I think I’ll go back to their French Dip if I get another free sandwich coupon for Arby’s.
Yes, they are. They need to have better roast beef. I wish someone would start opening Roy Roger’s out here.
I think they’re latest ad campaign screams of desperation:
You’re never too young for a “Hat Attack”?? Which to me sounds like someone from Boston saying Heart Attack while at the same time ripping off McDonalds “Big Mac Attack” from way back when.
