And it is an EV!
The New DeLorean Supercar! - YouTube
EV? What happened to Mr. Fusion?
It is not a Delorean if it doesn’t have a flux capacitor.
Everyone knows that.
A six-and-a-half minute video, and she spends about 5 seconds talking about what it’s like to actually drive the car. Ah, but it can give you a virtual hug from someone wearing the special Delorean wristband.
That’s not everything wrong with 2023, but it’s a start.
What a boring looking car.
The DeLorean brand name has absolutely no value beyond its connection to the original DMC-12. Not going the naked stainless steel route is a smart move, but come on, at least make a some homage to the original, iconic, instantly recognizable design, and give it a metallic silver paint job. The shitty-looking fake air-condition dials that are actually covers for USB ports are not going to cut it. The thing looks more like an oversized Ford Probe or Mitsubishi Eclipse.
Overall, a real missed opportunity to overcharge a small handful of wealthy Gen-Xers for an unproven electric car.
I don’t think anyone was allowed to drive the concept - every review I saw was just a walkaround.
Oddly enough (well, maybe not considering the original engine) the DMC-12 is a popular candidate for a Tesla swap.
Does anyone even remember that they used a Delorean in Back to the Future as a joke? I remember seeing it in the theater when it came out and it got a big laugh. Delorean was synonymous with failure.
Obviously you were not her target market. I was much more interesting in the fancy lights on the gullwing doors, the retro instrument display and the hugging-kissing seat than whether it understeers.
That’s what I was going to say – that’s a pre-production car. It may not even be drivable.
The speedometer in the original only went to 85 and the car itself could probably only get to 70 without modifications.
As a kid I remember a huge parking lot filled with Deloreans. It was their distribution center after they came in from Northern Ireland. I thought it was the coolest car ever. I was 10 and an idiot.
From that article, a Delorean cost $25,000 in 1981? That’s $88,000 today. I knew it was a terrible car, I didn’t realize how expensive it was.
I doubt that the Delorean would be as fondly remembered if that movie never existed.
It would be barely remembered at all.
I rather agree. The ability to know if a friend who works in the next building over, is actually in the next building over as he works, is not necessary to safe driving. Neither are hugs and kisses through a car seat. Talk to me about 0-60, 60-0, how far it goes on a full charge, and handling. Thank you.
I’m not an expert here but this is Supercar Blondie’s schtick – get access to concept cars and fawn over them. As a car guy it’s just… not my thing.
This video is over a year old, and Delorean as a company has nothing going for it except a brand name that’s (evidently) still able to bring in enough capital to slap together a concept car. Calling this vaporware is probably giving it too much credit.
I was 6 when BTTF came out and so I don’t care about the DMC-12 haters, I will forever love that car. And there are enough of them out there now that have been LSx + 911 transaxle swapped, which pretty much solves all the issues.
