Continuing from the old one…
Glenn Miller is HOT, both talent wise and sex symbol wise. I don’t know, but the man just had something going for him…
My favorite songs are Stardust, I’ve Got a Gal in Kalamazoo, Song of the Volga Boatmen, St. Louis Blues March, Sunrise Serenade, Don’t Sit Under the Apple Tree and Little Brown Jug.
“HOT”? Well, he doesn’t effect me that way. Wrong gender, doncha know.
But yeah, the man had some swingin’ sounds! I know it’s been played to death, but I still like In the Mood. I also like Pennsylvania 6-5000, although after seeing a movie with a similar name, I keep wanting to say “Transylvania”. (Mmmmm. Geena Davis in a vampire costume! )
I do like Don’t Sit Under the Apple Tree. They used it in 12 O’Clock High, which is one of the best films out there. (And yes, I do have the “Robin Hood” hummel like they used in the film.)
But I think the one that’s most fun to sing is…
A-B-C-D-E-F-G-H
I got a gal in Kalamazoo,
Don’t wanna boast,
But I know she’s the toast
Of Kalamazoo-zoo-zoo-zoo-zoo-zoo.

If you love Glenn Miller, you should seek out a relatively new CD called “The Secret Broadcasts,” which were recorded while he was in the service in WWII. The music is great, the audio quality is superb, and there’s three discs!
Big band pig heaven, don’tcha know.
Twelve O’Clock High? Isn’t that a Gregory Peck movie? Oh HEAVENS, Peck and Miller all in one! YUM!
I too love singing I’ve Got a Gal in Kalamazoo.
I have a CD that has, maybe about ten songs from the Secret Broadcasts. He’s doing a radio show, in German with a woman named Ilsa?
(BTW, did anyone know what they meant when his wife sent him the telegram reminding him he was married and he said it came too late? I thought she sent it for when he was talking about romance…as far as I know, he never cheated on her or anything-contrary to Nazi propaganda rumors).
Just finished watching “The Glenn Miller Story” on AMC. That’s probably the fifteenth time I’ve seen it.
Moonlight Serenade is my favorite, I think.
