The New Rolls is a Little Late This Year

After breakfast, I just wandered past the local Rolls dealership. They were taking delivery of the new 2007 Rolls. Nice, still slab-sided, huge rear doors of course, the grill is very traditional, I do not like the wheels with the double-R logo. (They are no longer on Avons, and now use Goodyears.) Nice paint, baby-blue seems to be big this year.*

I did not go in. I am waiting for the convertibles.

*Prince Sultan always uses baby-blue Rolls. Maybe some of them were for him.

I couldn’t find a baby blue, but here’s a two tone:

The only car one can get in baby blue and still be cool is a Corvette. Having a Corvette is so kitsch that being baby blue just adds to the general flavour.

Back in '81 I was new to the moving business. I picked up a Rolls, at a dealership near Love Field in Dallas, and delivered it to the owner’s home, near Golden Gate Park in S.F.
The car was 3-4 years old and he had left it w/ the dealership w/ the original plan that one of their employees was to drive it to S.F. For whatever reason he decided to change plans and ship it and I got the job. He ordered exclusive use of my van, so the car was the only thing on board, but he paid for the total cu. ft. I drove the car on and off the van, the only time I’ve ever even been in a Rolls, let alone drive one.
It was also my first time to haul an auto. I remember I was a bit nervous, OK… a lot nervous, but everything came out fine and he tipped me a couple hundred.

When you are the only person in The Kingdom with a baby-blue Rolls, it is cooler. Or at least the Crown Prince thinks so. (In truth I dod not know if he kept the Rolls when he was bumped up to the Number Two slot. Most of the higher-ranking guys prefer armored Suburbans.)

Bolding mine

Yeah, I’d say being alive is cooler than being dead.
