The New Xbox

“Hey Jim, you wanna come over and watch the new Super Man movie tonight? Yes… yeah, you’re gonna have to sit in the corner chair again so the kinect can’t see you watching with us. Oh… really? Come on! It isn’t that bad!!”
Seriously though… WHAT? <_<

This is it

This is how my wife will finally lock me out of porn :frowning:

Heh…here’s a link to the patent (edit: ) application.

specifically:

And here’s the details just released on used games. Not good…

The Wii is a very different system. A VERY different system. It is all motion control and silly games that have no appeal at all to “hardcore” gamers. The games that do have appeal play for crap on the Wii.

The 360 and PS3, on the other hand, are very similar in controls, content, and accessibility. They compete because they are alike in every way the Wii is not.

And it’s official. You need to have the Xbox connected to the internet. If you aren’t connected at least once per 24 hour period you WON’T be able to play games.

Welcome to PC gaming guys

It was a good thing for us though, it might yet be a good thing for you in the long run.

Uh oh, more news pouring in:

  • Need to be connected to the internet.

  • Will block used games if publisher wants it to. Even if publisher allows, it’ll be on a per retailer basis.

  • Can only gift a game once. Other restrictions on sharing and lending. Lending will not be possible at all at launch.

I’d just like to point out that I predicted this, and was laughed at by people who shall remain nameless.

Cubsfan and JustinBailey!!!

Fuck you, Microsoft.

Whoever is in charge of P.R. for XBone should be fired. Seriously. Regardless of whether the final system is good or bad when it’s released, they’re only a week out from E3 and their consumer messaging is atrocious. Right now is when you want all the fanboys freaking out about the amazing new gaming experience they’re going to get. But all the gaming press has to talk about is stuff that pisses off the core audience.

Please see the list of Wii bestsellers posted above. I can’t even imagine a survey of “hardcore” gamers that didn’t include at least 50% of them interested in Mario Kart/Zelda/Mario Galaxy.

To be fair to myself, who in their right mind would ever believe that Microsoft would willingly destroy their industry credibility with a series of policies (not just one, but multiple different rules) that are anti-gamer. It’s like if Coca-Cola declared war on carbonation.

This seals it, I’m getting a PS4.

They likely got it out of the way now so they can showcase “Games! Games! Games!” at their E3 Press Conference. Basically, they think gamers have the memory of Dory the Fish.

So Hamster King, what awesome unannounced games will I be playing on my PS4?

That list is much more substantial than you might have imagined, then. The Wii has been bringing up the rear for years, and not even Mario can save the Wii U. It never once occurred to me to shop a Wii.

Ah, you’re one of those people. Carry on, the real world certainly is.

LOL … what, do you want me to get fired?

Internal security is pretty tight, so I don’t know much. Nothing I’m working on is scheduled to be announced at E3 this year so I’m really out of the loop. I’ve only seen one trailer internally. But it is for a completely new AAA IP, and it does look pretty amazing.

Don’t jump that gun just yet.

Microsoft has announced a policy that is “anti-gamer” but EXTREMELY pro-publisher.

So. Which console do you think is going to start getting all the games from the big publishers? Or maybe they’ll just be cheaper on the XBone. Or maybe Sony will realize that they could be screwed here and announce a policy of their own regarding used games. They were SUPER cagey about answering that question during the PS4 reveal, and it sounds to ME like they were hedging their bets. I’m not sure things will go well for Sony with the big studios if they DON’T announce some sort of used game control. They’re just letting Microsoft take all the flack for it for now.

Or are you just bothered by the once-a-day internet check in?

This probably rules out the Xbox for me. I’m not going to buy a system that won’t let me play games if (when) their servers go down. Depending on how Sony handles this, I’ll either be buying my first PlayStation in 16 years, or I’ll start saving for a nice gaming PC.

No, they were quite clear.

I don’t really think it’s all that clear. In order for Publishers to truly be able to enforce some sort of used game sale protection Sony HAS to be providing some sort of tools for that to be accomplished.

You can’t lock down a game for the PS4, if there isn’t some sort of mechanism by which they can guarantee a lockdown. And it’s precisely the publishers that WANT this. Pretty sure MS doesn’t’ give a crap.

Here’s another prediction, let’s see if I’m right (yet again):

Sony is letting MS take all the flack, but they too will have some sort of built in system that publishers can take advantage off to pull the same thing on the PS4.

When the inevitable happens and publishers begin blocking games on the PS4, Sony will throw it’s collective hands up in the air and sheepishly say: “Hey, it’s not us! It’s them publishers!”.

This is EXACTLY what I am saying.

Seriously. Look at Sony’s WORDING: “Sony will not require…” guess what? MICROSOFT doesn’t “require” anything regarding DRM or non-transferrability EITHER, they are just making that functionality AVAILABLE to the publishers, who, of course, will use it. Microsoft doesn’t care. They don’t REQUIRE it. Neither does Sony. But that doesn’t mean they won’t “make it available” to publishers who want to use it.

“XBox off?” I forsee much trolling in the future.

Since currently nobody owns one, I guess that’s a true statement, right?

Bolding mine - ooookay, that’s an interestingly layered comment there. Did they hire the guy who came up with Geiko’s “up to 15% or more” non-informational slogan?
