Exactly why I thought it was perfect wordplay. It worked on multiple levels and I love that.
Not worth a nickel is somewhat like “my two cents worth” and at the same time there was the more subtle Ni = Nickel.
I saw no reason to join, but I did qualify. I always thought their standards were pretty low. I realized they could not attract real geniuses and had to settle for the smart, the shallow and the eccentric. I preferred hanging with “normal” geeks in the D&D club and Chess Team.

Strange thing, I was not picked on. I fight back hard and quickly and all out. I was not worth the effort to the bullies that might want to cow the average geek. I guess I was the token tolerated geek for the “Alphas”. I knew and talked sports, cars, Rock and girls. I was nerdy, but a very social nerd. I also had a few very large friends that greatly appreciate my help with their homework.
