Show was awesome. I started watching ER again because of Maura Tierney. Jon Lovitz would have been cooler if he was a regualr earlier on, and not just an annual guest star (he was on, what, 3 times before he became a regular?)
And no one could replace Phil, but having a friend of his take over helped the healing process.
This is probably my favorite sitcom, but it makes me sad to think about how I lost all of the episodes when my house was robbed a few years back, so I’m afraid I won’t go in depth and answer these questions. But I will share this one exchange from “French Diplomacy”:
JIMMY: (puts his foot on the table) “We should die with our boots on!”
DAVE: “What is that supposed to mean, sir?”
JIMMY: “Nothing. I just wanted you all to notice my new boots.”
A couple that I remember include the one where Dave admits he is Canadian, and the show where Bill does his phony presidential interviews. Unfortunately it has been a while since I have seen them, the only quote that stands out is when “Clinton” tells Bill that “I am your Bitch”.
Great show, I am glad to know it is being shown and will have to watch out for it.
Favorite episode? When Jon Stewart guest-starred as Matthew’s “twin” brother. I also loved the “Titanic” theme episode.
Max Lewis–nah, didn’t work. Jon Lovitz just didn’t have the personality to fill the hole that Phil Hartman’s death left. Also, Max (the character) wasn’t nearly as funny as Bill McNeil.
And my favorite Jimmy quote: “I’ve got so many lawyers calling me, it’s like I’ve got tobacco leaking out of my breast implants.”
I’ve only caught it in reruns but I do have to admit that the show was what good TV should be.
I really can’t pick a favorite but one that stands out in my mind is the one where Jimmy fakes going around the world in a hot air balloon. The look on his face when he spits out Bill’s tobacco spit from the coffee colander and then realizes Dave sees him is priceless.
My favorite episode is when Bill thinks he might be fired so he brings in a piano to work and starts doing political satire songs.
Also when Dave introduces him to his new boss he goes to shake his hand, but decks him instead.
Unfortunately, it’s been so long since I’ve seen an episode that it’s all a vague blur. It would have to be one of my favourite sitcoms, however. Any show that has a reference to Boba Fett is okay by me…
Jimmy : “Now, see, once a month, I sneak a variety of candies into Matthew’s desk. So far, his reactions have given me an 18% increase in my entire consumer goods portfolio.”
Beth : “Doesn’t he wonder how the candy got there?”
Jimmy: “Nah, I think in Matthew’s world, candy elves are a common occurence.”
I liked the episode where Matthew turned into a punk rocker but had no idea what really constituted “punk.” IIRC, he brought in stuff like Bon Jovi and Stryper, prompting one of my favorite lines from Dave.
[paraphrasing]I support your lifestyle choices, but, damn it, when you bring crap like this into the office…[/paraphrasing]
No DVD release yet, but some enterprising young lads have made all the episodes available on the internet. I probably shouldn’t give details on the boards, but feel free to email me if you want more info.
And I have to give a vote to the daydreaming episode, especially when Katherine is in the break room and has a daydream about sharing lunch with a bunch of ethnically diverse coworkers. She snaps back to reality when some whitebread people come in and join her. And start talking about “Friends.”
I’ve just got a “scathingly brilliant idea.” The writers of the show should get together and write a faux-biography of Jimmy James. I mean the was was Dan “D. B.” Cooper, “Deep Throat” and anintimate of the White House for some 30 years. It could be a blast to read. Focus mainly on his NewsRadio years but interspersed with side stories of some of his more wild stories.
They already have the title.
Plus I’d just like to spend some more time with the characters.
My favorite is either the one where Joe’s brothers visit when neither Dave and Lisa wants to be news director, or the one with Beth’s naked pictures and Lisa trying to figure out what turns Dave on.
Jimmy. His interactions with all of the characters were funny in different ways. Bill’s lechery got kind of old, and after a while I wanted Dave to punch Bill just once.
Bad Idea. I agree that a little Lovitz goes a long way, besides he had already played two “crazy” characters and Max was too dull to be a part of the weekly cast of characters. I skip the last season episodes when I watch the A & E reruns because of him and the whole Johnny Johnson storyline.
Working from memory: (Concerning his list of potential brides) You remember that sweet girl from Saved By The Bell? She made a dirty movie!
Matthew punched Bill in the face once. Damned if I can remember which episode it was, but it was quite amusing. Matthew thought he was king of the office and treated everyone else as such.
Matthew: “All my little bitches…”
Osiris: great idea! I’d buy a copy. With the quality of writing that show had, I don’t think it would be a stretch at all for the writers to pen a humorous novel.
