It premieres in about 9 minutes and I’m curious what people thought. I likely will not watch it until tomorrow, but I hope for the best.
Wilmore is a really smart guy and has been hilarious on the Daily Show. I have no idea what to expect from him with his own show. I hope it’s fun and smart.
I like the idea of a map that is inverted from our typical expectations, but I’m not sure it really vibes with his show all that much. At least not in the first 10 minutes.
It was okay, not more. Panels are hard to run, to get some degree of controversy without shouting. I think we need to see how a few weeks go.
The last segment was a 100% real one, where the panelists have to give an honest answer to a question. Also going to be tough to pull off.
Could be worse, though.
I like Larry enough that I’m willing to give him some time to grow into the show. It will take a few episodes before they get a rhythm going. But I think it has a lot of potential.
I am traveling this week, but we set up the DVR. Looking for updates from my son who watches TDS and (Colbert/now Wilmore) when he gets home from school (hey it beats the Bewitched and Gilligan’s Island reruns I had back in the day!!)
I am assuming he will need time to hit the ground with this. It took Colbert a while before he caught his pen every time he flipped it
Watched the first episode on DVR – very good. The panel discussion was good, although Wilmore could do a better job steering the conversation – hopefully he’ll improve with practice. It will probably depend a lot on the quality of the guests… hopefully he’ll get good ones consistently. Quite enjoyed the Keep it 100 part at the end. I’ll keep watching.
The monolog was the best part, although Wilmore didn’t quite have his timing down.
I don’t care much for panels. The only way they work is if everybody spouts perfect one-liners. You’re never going to learn anything or get a deep insight into an issue this way. Maybe he thought this was a way to distinguish himself from Stewart and Colbert.
It’s never fair to judge a first show. Only Colbert was fine from episode one and I saw it convinced he’d never be able to keep it up. Wilmore needs a year; let’s hope he gets at least months.
I liked the panel the best, actually. Bill Burr was funny and everyone else was good as well.
I hope they do “keeping it 100” every time and of course, if they do they will not need to explain what it is and the people can just answer the question.
Loved him throwing weak tea at anyone offering “not 100” answers.
I liked it. It’ll take Wilmore time to find his groove, and I want in on the ground floor this time. I didn’t think Colbert would last (and I predicted that Conan O’Brien wouldn’t last a full season, as awkward as he was on camera), and I don’t want to be wrong again.
And, hey, as long as Wilmore keeps Shenaz Treasury on regularly, I’ll be a loyal viewer.
Like others, I think it’ll take a little time for Larry to get comfortable in this show. I always looked forward to his bits with Jon Stewart, but there’s a gigantic difference between a 5-minute spot and running the show.
Did anyone else notice how he kept licking his lips? Nerves? Tic? Once I saw it, I kept seeing it.
I liked it. I will keep watching and give him several months to find his groove. He definitely has his own style and I am glad to see something new. I am also glad that he tends to bend towards issues of race. No shortage of that around, and I’d rather hear him talk about it than white guys.
New episodes are always free, in full, online on the show’s Web site the next day, if anyone is without a DVR.
Seems like he’s trying to replicate Bill Maher’s format a bit. I like Real Time, I’m just dubious about whether it will work as a show between The Daily Show and @midnight. The panel doesn’t lend itself well to comedy.
