Larry Wilmore tabbed as Colbert replacement

Story here. I think it’ll take some time for Wilmore to find his voice, so to speak, but I can see this as a good move.

If we can’t have John Oliver or Wyatt Cenac, I’m into it. I do enjoy Wilmore’s segments on TDS.

Oh, I like this choice. You’re right about him finding a voice though. The superior, disdainful, condescending “I’m talking to idiots/why do I bother?” thing he does is great for a three-minute segment, but probably not easy to build a show around.

Excellent choice. Really love him.

Wow. Staggeringly good news. I hope people realize that he does a character on The Daily Show, the same way that John Hodgman does a character. I don’t expect him to do that character on the new show, but he can approach topics in a way that John Stewart can’t. He’s been a leading figure in the black comic community for decades. More importantly, he’s been primarily a writer, both for TV and in his book I’d Rather We Got Casinos: And Other Black Thoughts, which is quite good. That’s better than just being a stand-up.

Awesome. He’s the only current correspondent I enjoy.

I hope he steals Jessica Williams from Jon. She needs more air time.

I like Jessica Williams, too. If she doesn’t join Wilmore, maybe she’ll become Senior Black Correspondent. That could be more airtime for her there.

And Wilmore is, as I said before, a solid choice to replace Colbert. If he sticks with his general character from TDS, people could think he’s trying to rip off Colbert’s character. Most won’t, but some would make the comparison, especially if they’re not familiar with him.

Great choice. As much as I’ll miss Colbert, I’m really looking forward to the new Wilmore’s new show.

That is awesome. I secretly hoped Wilmore would get picked, but I know how much work he has done as a producer and couldn’t believe he’d give it up for a show. I’m thrilled to be wrong. He is not only funny but he is brilliant (just like Colbert) and that’s what you need for a show like that.

I was just reading about new shows for next season, and he’s a writer on the show “Black-ish.” Wonder if he’ll have to drop that gig? Probably not though - he’s one of many writers, and the TDS et al crew take off like every 2 weeks

The only air time she needs is standing in the unemployment line. Worst addition to TDS ever. Abrasive as John Wayne Toilet Tissue and funny as a school shooting.

Great choice and a good title. And you can see Comedy Central is trying to make the most of this:

Which is kind of ironic since CC also had a late night lineup of white men, including Colbert, who is one of the white guys who just got hired to a network talk show. Anyway Wilmore should be great. He won’t talk to the audience the way he talks to Jon, and anyway this is going to be a panel show, so he won’t be carrying as much of it on his own.

I couldn’t have said it better.

I love him as a correspondent, but do wonder if he can anchor.

They really need an overhaul at Daily Show- some new correspondents who make you recall the Carell/Colbert/Helms generation. They film in NYC so it can’t be that hard to find some talented folk.
And please get rid of John Hodgman. I might be alone, but I find him about as funny as a leaking faucet. Kristen Schaal can be hysterical, but it depends on the sketch.

Believe me, you are not alone. He is from the land that comedy forgot.

Yay! I agree with most of the positive things posted here already.

Man, Stewart and his team have this figured out. His protege’s are taking over!

I think you’ve confused her with the talentless hack known as Samantha “How am I still on the Daily Show” Bee. Jessica Williams is fairly good.

Actually the cast of John Oliver & Wyatt Cenac was probably the best the Daily Show had despite a few dead weights on it.

I ‘get’ Samantha Bee, so she amuses me. But, yeah, her segments get polite laughter at best from the audience. She’s the weak link in that crew.
