Who should replace Stephen Colbert for the slot after TDS?

I figured this deserved its own thread.

I’ll throw out an option – Wyatt Cenac. I thought he was one of the best Daily Show correspondents.

What do you think?

John Oliver.

Oliver’s already got a show on HBO that starts in the next few weeks. Who’s your second choice?

I know about the HBO. Get 'im back, I say.

Er, Samantha Bee?

Lewis Black

I’d be very happy to see either Cenac or Bee get the job. Or both, because they seem to work off each other well.

I’m kinda sceptical they’ll put another Daily Show spin-off in that spot, simply because a large portion of that audience will presumably flip over to Colbert’s new show.

Comedy Central and Friends with Wyatt Cenac and Samantha Bee or vice versa.

As I said in the other thread, W. Kamau Bell.

None of the current corespondents are strong enough to carry an half hour.

That. They’d be just as well off bringing back the show about puppets making crank calls for the time slot.

Funny thing about that is that it was Jimmy Kimmel’s show.

It’s not a question of who, it’s a question of the format. The Colbert Report was a unique format based on Colbert’s personality. I don’t want to see anything but another political oriented show in the time slot, Stewart extending his show to an hour would be fine with me also.

Aisha Tyler.

What was in that spot before The Colbert Report? Maybe they’ll just do some other unrelated programming.

Anybody know (or able to find) a list of shows that had filled the 11:30 slot before Colbert?

I know Too Late with Adam Carolla burned out in the spot and I think had it last before Colbert. And before him Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn had it for a year or two.

Anybody else?

If anybody’s been hoping for a Battle Bots revival, this is your chance.

Ted’s Funhouse, starring Rafael Cruz.

Wherein a man unwittingly plays a parody of a batshit crazy Republican.

Well… Paul Shaffer is free…

I would totally go for that!

They may initially, but the way it’s being described it’ll be a completely different format, appealing to a broader audience. He won’t be in character, which will be interesting, because he’s almost never been out of character in public. I think Colbert will be able to pull it off because he’s really clever and versatile, but it won’t be anything like the Report.

I’d love to see that but I don’t think it’s humanly possible. The guy does an amazing job providing 23 or so very entertaining minutes four days a week – I don’t think even Stewart could double that and still keep up the quality and energy. It’s hard enough just to do the interview part and keep it entertaining, as talk show hosts have found out, but the first part of the show is like inspired full-blown standup with a political satire theme – really hard to do!
