Yeah, the Cube and the Scion XB (and the Kia Soul, and, I suppose the Honda Element) are pretty funny looking. But having driven the Cube and the XB, I find that they are extremely practical cars – very roomy on the inside, but nice and compact. I like the XB better than the Cube, because there is slightly more room in the back seat and the storage space, but it’s not very much longer.
The Element looks a bit bigger, so I don’t know whether it balances all the factors quite as well.
The Kia Soul I haven’t been in, but from the outside it looks like it isn’t as roomy as the XB. I do love the hamster commercials, though.
Actually, a cube is the optimm shape for a car-maximum interior room for a given size. Aerodynamically, not so good.
But WHY are designers coming out with cars with severely curved roof lines (lie the Hyundai Sonata)? No headroom in the back seat, and bad rearward visibility.
Yes. My 2007 hatchback has a huge blind spot because of the farthest back pillar. I had to learn to angle the car differently at stop signs and while merging to account for it.
