The non-offensive version of soulfrost's "Madam, I must protest"

The words are still his, but I’ve taken the liberty of snipping out the most offensive bits, so that his complaints may still be addressed. My edits will be in blue. Here goes:

From the Polling without commentary thread, in reference to the Bullshit modding thread:

Well, ok. I’ll just take you at your word that the situation is as resolved as it’s going to be.
Warning #1: I disagree with you, Tuba, if you think the situation was even resolved, let alone resolved acceptably. It was not – your <snip> announcement addressed nothing of any weight, except that you’d be letting the Warnings stand… and your reasoning for that showed gross ignorance of what had been said up to that point. What, tl/dr?

Yeah… I’m really sure that you’ll be allowed to hack the vB code to allow comment-less polls… and I’m just as certain that they’d be a great big hit.

Warning #2: Czarcasm is worthless as a Mod. You can hide him away in IMHO, but the embarassment he causes the board still seeps through to poison everything it touches. Many, many options were available to him–including not creating the problem in the first place–but he chose to do the most hurtful, heavy-handed, unreasonable things he could. Afterward, he hijacks every thread about it with his whining about how unworkable any other solution might be. I won’t even address that bottom-feeder directly.
Warning #3: Every other Mod on this board–it doesn’t matter what point-of-view you presented in the Mod Loop on this issue–you are dirty by association. You let people get ground up in the machinery of the conflicting, on-the-fly rule-making and the neverending ass-covering.

The lot of you seem more concerned with making sure that nobody slipped one past you than with doing the right thing. Many of you are against Zero-tolerance policies. Many of you believe that it’s better to let some guilty go free than to convict even one innocent person. But when the stakes are your own authority–or how you might look to the other Mods–you show that you lack the courage of your high-minded convictions.

Huh, when I crafted this, the original had been disappeared. I see it’s back up - just locked.

They mysteriously un-deleted the thread now. Still a bullshit call. Where are the links to prior warnings?

Were there even any?

I dunno. Surely our most kind and benevolent Moderator Overlords would not ban a long time member without sufficient evidence of repeated rule violations. I’m sure the links to his many warnings will be posted any time now.

Hey, don’t those usually come in the banning announcement thread? The links to offending posts and previous warnings, I mean. Tuba just linked to what she thinks is the relevant rule.

Yeah. Didn’t see that coming at all. This banning is of questionable merit.

No.

Someone is welcome to prove me wrong.

SoulFrost made it abundantly clear that he wanted to get himself banned.

We almost never ban people just because they’re throwing a tantrum and demand a ban; the mods agreed to overlook this stuff and let SoulFrost cool down. The stuff in the “Madam, I simply must protest!” thread made it obvious he was going to keep acting up. He forced our hand and I guess he got what he wanted.

So you don’t think a suspension would have been more effective/called for? It’s not like there was much time for him to cool with the recent “clarifications” that only added fuel to the fire.

He was a member long before even you, and other members/mods of this board have gotten away with far worse over a much, much greater period of time.

A suspension wouldn’t have worked? Seems there is always a first course of action that isn’t so drastic. I am glad you guys aren’t my parents! But seriously seems a bit harsh and reactive to me. Seems part of your role would be how it will play in Peoria and use your position to calm things down, not stir things up.

Forced your hand? Really?

That’s McWeaksauce, and you know it. This thing started because Czarcasm made a ridiculous ruling, and for some reason, the “Mod Loop” decided to back it. Now you all look silly.

Effective at what? There wasn’t a misunderstanding of the rules here. He was acting up for the express purpose of getting himself banned and he was upfront about it. If he decides that maybe that was poor judgment, he can ask to be reinstated.

So why wasn’t he banned as soon as that started? He was “acting up” no worse in that post than the one cited before. Clearly he didn’t even have a chance to cool down, so if you folk actually wished to give him the chance, a suspension would have been a much more appropriate means by which to do so.

Frankly, I think the nonsense around that thread (disappearing it, banning SoulFrost, then undisappearing it, then locking it) reflects a lot worse on TubaDiva than SoulFrost. This has been a seriously unbelievable turn of events.

I guess you know it’s all going to blow over eventually, but the adult thing to do here would be the rescind the original warnings, rescind the banning of SoulFrost, take couple days away from it, and when you’re feeling a little cooler, have a little deepthink on that moderator forum of yours about how you all got so out of hand about this whole thing.

That’s far too reasonable. It’s not like the top 6 active threads in ATMB right are all rooted from a single issue (and that’s not even counting all of the threads…)

Exactly. Well said.

We have different opinions on what looks silly, I guess. I think demanding a ban in protest of a moderating decision about a thread you weren’t even participating in is silly. I think asking to be kicked off a message board where you’ve posted for 12 years because you’re upset about one decision (and admit the moderating had been good recently) is silly. But that’s me. Agree or disagree with the response to any of the avatar threads, you can’t do what SoulFrost was doing. He was not confronted about his other statements. We felt he made them in the heat of the moment, and even if he was being unpleasant about it, he was allowed to be. When he kept doing it and escalated it with that last thread, a ban seemed like the best thing for everybody.

Mods =/= Everybody

I was including SoulFrost in “everybody.”

Point still stands. SoulFrost + Mods =/= Everybody.
