Whatever mistakes Czarcasm made, the banning of Soul Frost was a perfectly sensible decision. The moderators in this thread have been helpful and patient.
I understand something getting under your skin and pissing you off, but the people who are so upset over this issue should go for a nice walk and have a beer and then see if it’s really worth all the angst.
Mostly I’ve just been trying to counter the really insensible accusations and demands. I came in after Czarcasm had already dug in his heels, so reason time was over.
I’m not saying there’s no reason to object. There is, and objection should be raised. Just…don’t be daft about it, yanno?
“Warnings aren’t Three Strikes You’re Out rule”? You mean by that “banning”, right? So you’re reminding us that a warning is not a banning. Don’t you see how this might be construed as you waving off the whole thing? Hysteria or no?
Why would their be reason to object? You just reminded us that since a warning is not a banning, and “this doesn’t mean much”. And what’s with “yanno?” Is this yet another form of your condescension? Or do you see how it could be interpreted that way?

Yeah, but if you (at least seem to) make trite people’s ire, it’s akin to throwing napalm on a burning building. Take me for example. I didn’t agree with all of what Marley said, but he responded to all points in a classy way. You on the other hand… well let’s just say it was your tone, Boss that lured me back into the foray.

I think it’s already clear from his previous statements that he doesn’t think hiding the thread was right, and that’s why he said she rightly decided to bring it back. What more do you need? A giant banner “Marley says TubaDiva Screwed Up!”?

I agree with you, in part. I too thought it was clear from his previous statements that he considered hiding the thread wrong. But the post I originally quoted made me think it might be otherwise, so I’m asking for clarification. That’s what the gain is; I learn what** Marley’s **position is.

Although you’re of course right about the correct definition, Bosstone, you gotta remember I am from redneckville, and around here a “foray” is another name for a “mushroom hunt”, and esp for morels (am serious).
And you don’t even want to know what the people around here refer to as “opossum”. But let’s just say, it has nothing to with the critter normally associated with that name. 
FTR, there used to be a Three Strikes rule on Warnings leading to banning here - three Warnings and you were gone - but that was done away with a long time ago. That may have been what he was referring to.
I don’t know that you have hurled anything at anyone, but there is a contingent here that takes any excuse to hurl things at TubaDiva.
Thinking about the subject for the past couple of days, I feel that a modified form of this post would be the best resolution (at least on the SoulFrost question). Change it to a one month suspension, email the guy to tell him so, but also tell him “Email us back in two weeks if you want it to be permanent”. Gives him a 2 week chance to cool down before making it permanent, gives him a month to cool off before posting again if he changes his mind within the 2 weeks, and gives him a way to come back, with nothing said on either side, should he actually cool off and think better of his original ban demand.
Just a suggestion thrown out for your consideration. I really don’t care enough about the guy either way, to care if he comes back or not.
Ah, I misread your post, then. I thought you were suggesting that I was some kind of troublemaker, only asking my question for the sake of stirring up future trouble, as you consider my posting history would indicate.

Just for the record, what harm could possibly have been done by trying a 30 day suspension first? I keep seeing that swept aside with something to the effect of “He wanted to be banned.”

This short term banning and then a reevaluation would have given him time to calm down and still served the pupose of allowing mods to respond to his tantrum appropriately. You don’t just throw away twelve year Dopers with a shrug like that. You never know when the SDMB is really important to someone. For some, obviously, “it’s just a message board.” For others here, it’s friendships that are important. You don’t keep coming for twelve years unless you have a sense of connection.
Please reconsider and don’t wait for him to ask. One tantrum in twelve years is a pretty good record in my book. I’ve seen mods have more than that. Seriously.
I’m not intending to come down hard on anyone. Just realize that more than one person is being stubborn here. Trying 30 days first won’t hurt anything and it may help. Okay?
