The NRA's response to Sandy Hook - An armed policemen in every. single. school. in the US.

But the Big Crazed Loner industry is going to be pushing for it very hard.

Exactly.

Don’t you get it?

He WANTS it to be ineffective, so as to prove the only answer is for the Law Abiding Citizens to arm themselves.

Neither is posting armed guards. Guard the schools, shooter goes to a library. Or a daycare or a theater or a restaurant or a mall. The NRA is full of shit, and are nothing more than shills for the gun makers.

This shouldn’t be handled by the NRA, but by some other three-letter agency. They should create a shadowy foreign militia custom made for psycho misfits to join, and then turn them loose on other psycho misfits overseas.

Nope.

I am not now a manufacturer nor have I ever manufactured a gun. I am a Life Member of the NRA.
NRA is a grassroots civil rights organization, they have millions of working class members donating, making phone calls, writing letters.

You are correct in your statement about if schools are protected then spree killers go elsewhere.
I never go anywhere with a glock on my belt, if a spree killer goes berserk in my presence maybe I’ll be able to stop him.*** Maybe not. ***

imo it’s the control freaks that are full of excrement. Control freaks think that criminals will obey laws.
Futility.
Soon, with modern technology people will be able to manufacture machine guns in their garage.
Control freaks can rant rave, curse, rage, all they like. The cat is out of the bag and can not be put back in. Americans will always have firearms. Control freaks in love with controlling every aspect of a free persons life will simply have to focus their illogical obsession some where else.

Gun control minus gun equals control. Gun control is people control. You cant even control people in high security prisons. The media is pushing the false hope that somehow if we make everything illegal that people will stop killing each other.

There’s a difference between the membership of a lobby or industry group and the intent and direction that the group’s executive takes. Just because you, personally, want the NRA (or any other organization you join) to take a certain path does not mean that is what actually motivates them.

A fairly good portion of the NRA’s revenue is direct funding from gun manufacturers, and I’m willing to bet the CEO of Colt or Smith and Wesson has more influence with them than you do.

So let’s consider the incentive both the NRA and gun manufacturers will have to block 3D printing of firearms. Look at how hard the entertainment industry goes after pirated music and films. Wait until we have pirated firearms designs!

The NRA will be right there, protecting us from the dangerous (to their industry supporters) home printed firearms.

Just like scanners and printers are legally required to include technology to block printing of currency, and video recorders that block Hidef video recording, it is easy to imagine 3D printers that cannot print weapons.

I again must point out that the fascination people have with 3D printing is, in the case of anything made out of steel, really misguided and about thirty years out of date. A CNC mill will make any gun part you want except fr the plastic parts, which wouldn’t be hard to make with other stuff. (Actually you could make them with the mill, too, but it’s not the most economical way of doing it.) If you want to pirate a submachine gun you can have yourself set up and ready to go in three, four business days. You need the right power supply but any electrician can set that up for you. As a matter of fact, home CNC hobbyists often tackle making their own firearms as one of their projects. It’s a challenge if you’re new to CNC technology, but homemade gun parts are pretty commonplace. For home use I recommend a small Haas. You need the CAD/CAM software too though.

The NRA and gun industry have nothing to block. You can pirate guns right now, and a CNC mill will do it better than 3D printing. The reason people don’t do it is that it doesn’t make any sense to make them yourself; you cannot possibly make a gun cheaper than a major manufacturer, because of the economies of scale. You can pirate copies of “The Dark Knight Rises” cheaply because what you’re being charged for is not the physical product, it’s the creative aspect. There’s nothing original or unique about an AR-15; you’re paying for precision machining, injection molding, and materials.

RickJay, I agree with you - it can be done today with CNC, but it seems that 3D enthusiasts think it will be much cheaper and easier tomorrow (after some unknown breakthroughs to print stronger materials).

If that happens and becomes widespread, then I would expect action against it.

I sometimes think that 3D enthusiasts see Star Trek replicators in the near future.

Just came in to say I read the thread title as “Armed politician in every school”, and I kinda like that idea.

3d, replicators, whatever.

The point is, its very difficult to get rid of knowledge. Completely ban guns if you think you can.
You cant stop any high school kid from getting Ex or whatever the kids are calling MDMA and you cant get rid of guns in the USA.
Hell, I was talking to a law enforcement guy from the UK - its a dammed island and they still have all kinds of guns there.

The gun banners don’t even remember recent SCOTUS cases, a new assault weapons ban will lose in court and make a few lawyers wealthy.

You might as well let teachers have the proper training and allow them to carry or have armed security/police. How else are you going to keep the kids safe?

You’ll never ever get rid of guns.

Hey folks, if you’re interested in a good read on the subject and you have an open mind please read this.

I certainly hope this was a typo. The NRA will throw you right out if you publicly admit that you leave your house unarmed and unafraid of the dreaded psycho killer.

Way to spout the party line by blaming the media and invoking some sort of dark force. You fit right in with this outfit. Perhaps the NRA once was a grass roots organization. Once an organization becomes beholden to special interests that give them millions of dollars, it is no longer able to claim that it is a grass roots outfit. The NRA doesn’t give a damn about what the membership thinks, as long as said membership continues to send in their dues. The only thing that would change the way they are presently doing business is for the membership to resign en masse and create another grass roots organization that is less radical and not beholden to anybody but the membership. I’m a gun owner and I reject everything the NRA presently stands for. Oh, and  back at ya.

Remember how the NRA was all over the Treyvon Martin case, saying things would have been fine if Martin had been packing heat? Me neither.

So here’s an honest question; looking long term, how should the United States deal with its remarkably high rate of gun-related killing?

Could not agree more. Well stated, Chefguy.

After today’s news of a shooter killing two volunteer fireman, you can add that we need armed guards to show up at every fire now too. Yeah - this is a great plan to have armed guards everywhere, at all times, in every situation - because it is not guns that kill people, it is the bullshit the NRA mafia is trying to foist upon the rest of us that is allowing people to be killed with guns.

No I’m sure the NRA will just say that we need to start arming Firemen now. Next will be ambulance drivers, then meter maids, then the guy in the plumping aisle at Home Depot, etc etc.

As I said earlier in this thread, I just don’t understand the American fascination with guns?

MtM

Also, we need to get god back in our firehouses.

so how long have you been a member of the NRA?
