I am desperate for either your personal reviews, or websites featuring reviews. While the UT has an option for reviews, but there is only one thus far, which doesn’t help much. We’d probably prefer a more traditional production, but the ballet itself is somewhat secondary to the music for us, if that makes any difference for your review.
I buy tickets to arts events through Goldstar Events (www.goldstar.com) so I logged on to see what they had to say. They have the Nutcracker that plays at Spreckels - and that has 5 member reviews, all are positive. They don’t seem to have any reviews on any other version.
Regardless, I highly recommend Goldstar. We get some pretty decent discounts that way for some pretty neat plays and performances.
Oh, you’re awesome! We can’t go to the Spreckles Nutcracker, but while perusing the Goldstar site, we discovered that Xanadu is playing at the La Jolla Playhouse. Four tickets later (at about 40% off) and now I know what we’re doing on New Year’s Eve. We’ve used Goldstar before, and been quite pleased, but, for some reason, I rarely think to look there. So, thank you very, very much for the reminder!
I’m still looking for Nutcracker reviews should anyone have any opinions. I’m leaning towards the California Ballet primarily because they feature the San Diego Symphony, but if anyone has any experience with either production, I’d be grateful. Otherwise, California Ballet it is.
