The NYC mayoral race 2013

Of course! He’ll need someone to blame. Somehow failure to raise taxes and improve social services will lead to an increase in crime.

I couldn’t say.

I think I’ve already pointed out enough times that crime was way, way down long before Stop and Frisk came along.

Is it possible he’s confused Stop and Frisk with Broken Windows?

On that score anything is possible.

I should have made it clear I was joking unless he thought Broken Windows started under the Bush Administration.

You spelled “right-wing dystopian nightmare” wrong.

In a move that surprises no New Yorker who isn’t 18-25 and lives in Brookyln, Bill De Blasio has chosen Bill Bratton of Giuliani administration fame to be his next police commisisoner. Yes, that Bill Bratton who would have crushed OWS like a cockroach.

And his promise for transparent public debate over his education commissioner? Silently withdrawn. I can’t wait to see what happens when he actually takes office.

I’m not surprised since the idea was floated before the election, but it’s a very bad sign. We’ll see how things are supposed to be different this time.

Of course; I posted about it this back in August. De Blasio’s been talking up Bratton for years. This is why I could never believe that he is some kind of progressive hero or even vaguely sympathetic to the concerns of poor minorities in this city. I am still hoping that I have misjudged de Blasio completely and that my skepticism will turn out to be unwarranted, but I won’t hold my breath.

On the plus side, now adaher should feel safe enough to come pay us a visit.

This piece is more substantive.

Could be worse. At least he didn’t pick Howard Safir.

The appointment of Bratton is an excellent sign that de Blasio will keep doing what works

Or not. 39% approval rating and the guy just started. Heck of a job:

You know he’s going to be mayor for four years, right?

You want him on that wall. You NEED him on that wall.

He’s getting scolded so much by people who should be his allies that he’s got to start learning eventually. I mean, who wouldn’t listen to their political allies? I’m sure that thanks to Andrew Cuomo’s support for charter schools, De Blasio will start supporting them too.

There haven’t been any huge successes or major scandals. It’s been so slow that the Post, which informed in December de Blasio’s spokeswoman was scandalously dating Eliot Spitzer, which led to her being hounded out of a job, is now saying de Blasio shouldn’t have fired her. :stuck_out_tongue: I know you’re informing us of these poll numbers with the best of intentions because you just want the best for New York, but it’s a long term.

More goes on in an administration besides scandals. He’s done things people don’t like. He didn’t go from winning over 60% of the vote to 39% approval because people got bored.

I’m not trying to declare him a failure when he’s just begun, just pointing out that he’s off to a pretty bad start. And most of the fire at him is coming from Democrats.

What, if anything, do you think he’s done to get off to a bad start in 2 1/2 months? What do you think he needs to do next?

Well, he hasn’t made a lot of friends in Albany yet, but it was probably inevitable he’d clash with Cuomo and the legislature.

I think he’d be smart to find a few smaller issues to focus on and rack up some easy wins. That would let him get some victories on his belt, get him some good press, and get his staff into the swing of things, which will help him when he turns to bigger stuff, like pre-k and affordable housing.
