Wow… Interesting one. What did you all think?
I enjoyed the cold open, especially the fact that all of the clues were still in place. It was a lot of fun.
The Erin/Pete storyline did nothing for me, though it was nice to see Nellie with something more to do. The Dwight/Darryl story also left me pretty flat.
The big moment of last night’s episode was obviously the Jim/Pam fight with the boom operator breaking the 4th(3rd? 5th?) wall to comfort Pam. That scene was hard to watch.
That was about as accurate of a real-life fight as I’ve ever seen on TV, especially for a phone call. Wow.
Does anyone think the series could end with Pam and Jim breaking up?
I asked that last week. It seems like they’re going that way, no?
Nah, this is just another Jim & Pam Might Breakup red herring. I predict that Athlead is going to take off, the Halperts will move to Philly full time, and Pam will become a stay at home able to focus more time on her art career.
I disagree, I hated the cold open, but loved the rest of the episode, Erin/Pete and Dwight/Darryl included.
The fight at the end was perfect. Jenna Fischer nailed it with her reaction at the end.
Here’s the question, who was ‘in the right’ in that argument?
No way they would they have the wrinkly old balls to do that… I wish they would be able to something like that, but they have to think of the “Jam” fans.
Well, as Pam said, other people recorded the footage. But Jim was cranky and having a bad day and he wanted to see the footage right away. Now that they broke the fourth wall, it’s problem solved. Just send Jim the documentary footage of the kid dancing. It was in focus and the kid was centered (not in the background).
These are not real problems and only put there for dramatic purposes.
Exactly. The show is ending this year and Jim and Pam are the central couple. I really can’t imagine that the show would on a downer like a breakup of that relationship.
Just spitballin’ here, but what if the real shocker is that Toby gets rejected by Nelly and then proceeded to strangle her? Outing himself as the strangler? Maybe?
Jim’s right, he just expressed himself and his frustrations uncharacteristicly jerky owing to his setbacks at work. Clearly he’s not just “doing it for himself.” Also, I think this is Pam’s character arc in this story. She will have to learn to see something through, not fear change, and break out of her safe rut. Jim’s only change will be to return to being nice, which is hardly an arc.
Have they ever done that before? I know there’s been some winks & nods towards the crew, but I don’t remember anything like this.
During the first episode of this season, Jim asked the camera guy (not shown) why they were still there and was told that they (the documentarians) wanted to see what happened to Jim and Pam. But yes, this was the first time we saw the camera crew.
Finally a great episode. I loved the open. Meredeth’s wig of the week. Finally meeting the crew. The great acting job by Jenna Fisher at the end. Windows 95 and the dot matrix printer. Dwight getting nailed by the milk shake.
Good stuff.
No way does the show end without Pam and Jim being deliriously happy.
Like many arguments, neither. They both screwed up. The problem was that they got angry rather than being understanding. Which would have been more interesting if it weren’t so incredibly out of character for Jim. Realistic, but very out of character.
By the way, the reason they’ve been doing more references to the documentary format of the show is because…
(spoilers for a general description of things they’re going to do in the last few episodes)
Rainn Wilson revealed in an interview that toward the end of the show, they’re going to have the “documentary” be released in the in-show world. We’re going to see the characters react to seeing it and find out how being in the show affects their lives. This is also where they’re going to use some of the footage they shot for the rejected Shrute Farm spin-off pilot.
Yikes. The fight and its aftermath gave me the willies. Kudos to Jenna.
Having had that fight, it was really hard to watch. And having had that fight, Pam’s right.
“Yep. Yep.”
Jenna Fischer just brings it when it comes to tears and heartbreak.
I did get kinda pissed off about Dwight tossing the milkshake until Darryl’s closing scene. “Replay!”
I just watched the fight scene again. That was an incredible acting job by Jenna/Pam.
