Anyone catch this? The first couple episodes where amusing but this was the first one I laughed all the way through.

I saw it. Great episode. I loved the anal-retentiveness of the guy picked to choose a health care plan. And more so the way the big boss lady treated him like a nobody.
Anal fissures - loved that he made fun of this, then someone said they had it.
The first episode was almost word-for-word the same as the British version, and so was the second one, but this one was more original and I thought quite funny. A lot of the critics said that the show improves as the episodes get more original, so I have high hopes for this show.
He was just so sure it was another made-up disorder - it had to be since it had the word “anal” in it, right? :smack:
I loved when Jim was reading Pam’s list and after he read the above item, Pam said, “It’s an epidemic.”
There were a lot more ‘laugh out loud’ moments like that one in this episode. The first two episodes were…okay, but I’m glad I gave it another shot. My husband and I were laughing so hard.
The best parts of the show are when Jim and Dwight are screwing with each other. But as much as I like Steve Carrell, I’m just not liking him in this role.
I also loved how the boss (what’s his name?) went out to get their special surprise, came back with ice cream sandwiches, and when the guy said “This isn’t our special surprise, is it?” he realized just how lame it was. Good fun.
Yeah, me too.
I’m liking the show.
Really not liking the boss.
I just can’t get past the feeling that he’s just doing shtick. I mean, that was part of Ricky Gervais’ character too. He hammed it up for the “documentary”, and was clearly a buffoon. But, there’s a delicate line there between “being a buffoon” (who your sympathize with – Ricky) and “acting like a buffoon” (which kind of makes me cringe – Steve Carrell).
Steve Carrell just hasn’t found the right tone. I’m hoping that he does because I do like the other characters, and the writing, and the style, and I like Carrell SOMETIMES. He might irritate me less as I get used to him.
The difference between Gervais’ portrayal and Carrell’s is that Gervais evoked some pathos, which Carrell does not.
If Carrell can just tone it down a notch or two (something more low-key than his current finger-in-the-light-socket approach), and if the writers can find a way to make us feel some sympathy for him, he’ll be OK.
Still liking the show. It is not quite as good as the British version, but still quite good.
Yeah I’ll agree that Carell is a little over the top in this role.
Trying to get the free trip to Atlantic City was pretty funny though.
[bump in honor of the rerun]
The exchange between Jim and Pam about the melting teeth - Jim coming up with a name as if it is real.
I missed the first season. I love what they are doing now.
I missed the first season too. Watched a few minutes of the first episode – Michael was firing Pam, as a joke.
I went “Right, that’s all we need on TV, more rude, clueless, stupid, cruel people” and turned it off.
I hadn’t seen the BBC original, and didn’t understand that it was supposed to be painful and I was supposed to cringe. Sometimes I just don’t get it.
I love the show now, but I like the BBC one a bit better.
This is the one episode from the entire series that I hadn’t seen until last night’s rerun, and I think it illustrates how far the show has come.
There were plenty of laugh-out-loud moments, but I think the “slow shuffling away of disgruntled employees” scene at the end fell kind of flat (although it would have been perfect had it been used in the UK series, which had fewer laugh-out-loud moments but many more cringe-worthy scenes). The writers have come into their own enough that they could’ve come up with another resolution if that episode had been written for this season.
