The Official Inauguration-Watching Thread

Biden is equal parts amusing and creepy. I love the way he turned around and gestured as if to say, “Check it out! VP! Can you believe it?!”

tis a joy to be simple, tis a joy to be free!

The King is dead, long live The King!

(btw: why are they playing Appalaichan Spring?)

Come on, come on. Enough with the rigamarole. Swear the brother in already. Quit stalling.

Clip on tie? At least tuck in the corners Yo-Yo!

Okay, I’m getting ready to start crying now.

(This is the hymn we sang at my mother’s memorial service, 20 years ago. I wish she could have lived to see this day.)

Nice music and the piano player is adorable

It looks like they’re really enjoying themselves and each other out there. That’s really cool.

Yo-Yo Ma’s outrocking everyone there.

I noted they announced the middle name of everybody except Obama, who went with “H.” It seems to attract even more attention to his middle name, by making an exception for it. Weird.

As a Christian, I wished I could nudge him and say, “Dude, you’re not in church. You can’t assume everybody here shares your belief in Jesus.” Still, if Rick Warren’s presence helps calm down some of the conservative Christians who are afraid of an Obama presidency, it isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
Really nice musical moment!

Anthony McGill

How can they play in that cold? Brr! I feel sorry for the pianist in that dress.

I’m a big-time Yo-Yo Ma fan. It’s so cool to see him performing. And I love the music. Can’t help but think that the fact that John Williams arranged it makes it a movie score.

ETA: and I guess he composed it, too.

So, who’s in charge right now? And man, that was beautiful…

Very nice (lovely) music!

biden is biden, what more can one say. he came out saying “hey guys!” when he was introduced.

he is now the countries “uncle joe”. and it is a bit …em… unnerving.

Yeah, he’s really good.

<standing>

It’s an old Shaker hymn, “Simple Gifts” (" 'Tis a gift to be simple, 'tis a gift to be free…") that Copland borrowed from for Appalachian Spring.
