The Official Inauguration-Watching Thread

Senator Feinstein is drunk!

MSNBC confirmed a medical emergency; they didn’t say who needed medical attention.

nice toast sen. feinstein.

Now did he mess up? My co-workers who were watching it thought he was choked up when he had that momentary pause… I thought it was a mess up. Judges?

As a Californian I am proud to see Feinstein and Pelosi playing major parts - I sometimes feel that the left coast is often overlooked by Washington DC.

NBC says it was Byrd. Wait, now Obama is talking about Ted Kennedy.

To be precise, Obama messed up first by jumping in too early with “I, Barack Hussein Obama”. (I suspect he was just really eager to say that out loud to spite all the idiots who tried to use his middle name as a racial insult.) Then Roberts threw him off by putting “faithfully” in the wrong place, causing Obama to stop and wonder if he should say it in the proper order or in the order Roberts said it. Then I think Roberts repeated it in the right order and then in the wrong order again! It was a mess.

cnn’s dana on the capital said byrd or kennedy.

utoh, looks like kennedy.

MSNBC says it’s Sen. Kennedy; they say he was taken out of the luncheon on a stretcher.

“One or more”, they’re reporting. Baroo?

Part of what I loved about the speech today - and much of Obama’s campaign - is the man comes across as totally polite and respectful of a person, while in fact he’s tearing them limb from limb.

CNN.com is saying the collapsed senator is Kennedy.

jeez, kennedy looked good outside during the inaug. i hope it is just overexcitement or possibly overheating.

I wasn’t going to make a late interjection on this thread, but here goes:

At a University of Rochester live screening, one of two young women sitting across from me made the comment that it would really be something if she started singing that song.

  • “Jack”

oh, dang, seizure they are reporting.

NBC has an update. It was definitely Kennedy; he had a lengthy seizure. The confusion with Byrd apparently stems from the fact that Byrd earlier left the luncheon.

From the “The Agenda/Defence” (sorry, “Defense”):

"Reform Contracting
Create Transparency for Military Contractors: President Obama and Vice President Biden will require the Pentagon and State Department to develop a strategy for determining when contracting makes sense, rather than continually handing off governmental jobs to well-connected companies. They will create the transparency and accountability needed for good governance, and establish the legal status of contractor personnel, making possible prosecution of any abuses committed by private military contractors.

Restore Honesty, Openness, and Commonsense to Contracting and Procurement: **The Obama-Biden Administration will realize savings by reducing the corruption and cost overruns that have become all too routine in defense contracting. **This includes launching a program of acquisition reform and management, which would end the common practice of no-bid contracting. Obama and Biden will end the abuse of supplemental budgets by creating a system of oversight for war funds as stringent as in the regular budget. Obama and Biden will restore the government’s ability to manage contracts by rebuilding our contract officer corps. They will order the Justice Department to prioritize prosecutions that will punish and deter fraud, waste and abuse. " (Bolding mine)

Yesss!

I hope Sen. Kennedy pulls through–but if his time has come, I can’t help but think he would appreciate that he got to see the mountaintop before he left.

CNN is saying that Sen. Byrd collapsed as well.

Byrd also needed some kind of medical attention.

Well, one thing we can all agree on is that at midnight (EST) his first full day in office starts.
