The One Hundred Most Influential People In History Elimination Game

I might have to vote for Heisenberg but i can’t be certain.

I’m sure you’re more principled than that.

I’m disappointed that this thread has fizzled since I would have appreciated understanding the strengths and weaknesses of Hart’s list (using Hart’s own criteria of course).

I like Left Hand of Dorkness’s suggestion, and hope that Curtis, or someone else, does start a new thread using Left Hand’s approach. I’ll suggest a 21-round approach as a compromise between Left Hand’s 18-round elimination and a 99-round elimination.

In the 21-round elimination, the first 7 rounds reduce each list of 10 (per Left Hand’s suggestion) to three names. The next 5 rounds each eliminate 4 names from the resulting list of 30. This results in 10 names, and the final 9 rounds pick a winner.

It might also help if the timeline is reduced. It doesn’t take a week to get most people’s votes in. Also, better rules. Also, better descriptions (Jesus, Savior of Mankind? I know Curtis had some sucking up to do, but that’s just asking for us atheists to eliminate him round 1). Also, you might be able to actually make it in a poll format so you don’t have to count votes manually. Just make a new thread for each round.

You might want to ask the Mods about that one, like the Mafia games, it’s often more convenient to just have a single thread and just diligently update it rather than have multiple threads that can be reopened or clutter up the main page.

The jihad is at least 1/2 the fun. Vote Muhammed

It would have been nice for the initial respondents to understand it was about influential people, rather than their chance to give their usual anti religious rants. Even if you don’t believe, the prophets have been influential.

One of the sets of rules was the most bad influence. I offered up three votes while the rules were mutating; if they changed again after my third vote, too bad.

Where’s Curtis?

It wasn’t about influential people. It was about people of beneficial influence.

It’s Sunday. Here’s the vote count:

Moses - 7 votes
Mohammed - 5 votes
Adolf Hitler - 3 votes
St Paul - 3 votes
Simon Bolivar - 1 vote
Ts’ai Lun - 1 vote

And it looks like Moses is gone in Round 2.

I’m sticking with Hitler for Round 3.

I’ll stick with Mohammed for Round 3

I thought Moses was tossed out for being fictional.

Hitler.

Yes and no.

No, he wasn’t tossed out at the beginning for being fictional.
Yes, we’re tossing him out now for being fictional.

Hitler again.

All right, I’ll get on the Hitler bandwagon. He was pretty awful.

Some people suggested that and there was some discussion of who might be considered fictional. But there was no consensus and no rule covering this. So we appear to be sticking with elimination by vote.

Also, let’s not forget that fictional characters can have influence.

I suggest we put Yoda on the list.

While you’re out on that limb…

Now I have some sort of campaign song running through my head: " Get on the Hitler bandwagon" to the tune of “Look for the Union Label”.

I Vote Hitler, again. It’s starting to feel normal now.
