The one-syllable thread

While I know what you mean, I still claim it is two. The first part sounds like “tie” and part two rhymes with “bird.” At least, that is my view, and how I say it.

When I say it out loud I think you might be right.

Well, my wife bought the squeak ball. But, I am the one that plays with her (I mean the dog, not the wife). I read that the squeak is the same kind of sound as small prey. And it’s a game. She will come up to me with the toy in her mouth and then I go to grab the toy. She won’t let me take it from her (with a growl) and comes back for more. And so on.
It’s cold. They say there will be a snow storm this week. I try to stay in as much as I can (I work from home). I go out just to take the dog out or get the mail.
Side note: As I typed that, a song was on. It was These Dreams by Heart. It had: These dreams that sleep when it’s cold…That fit what I had just typed.

Tahrd.

as in I am tahrd & need a nap; spoke in the South.

Good point.

But I am in the North, and do not speak that way. Those who live in the South and so speak could use that word in this thread, but I think I should not.

All is fair in love & war…& one-sound posts here!

“The work we done was hard,
At night we’d sleep, ’cause we we tir’d”

L. Lynn, “Coal Guy’s Girl Kid” (the end words rhyme in the song)

Which makes me think, how long a quote from a known song or book would fit this thread? Lynn does quite well with two full lines in a row, but that is the max in this song.

O say can you see, by the dawn’s ea– never mind.
God save our gra— never mind.
I do not like green eggs and ham, I do not like them Sam I Am. I do not like them on a…

^^I think this book will win the prize.

It looks like this is a hard game to play, but I just saw this thread now and I want to try.

I am bored as my boss took a plane to a state south of where I work. He wants to watch his kid play a game with a ball made of black and white shapes.

There is sun in the sky on this day, but we will get a lot of snow on the next day.

Big diff. Heinz wins.

Nice start!

At work some folks met, and had food from a chain place that makes meat and rice and beans in a flat bread wrap. I did not meet with them, but when they were done they put the food that was left in the break room for more folks to eat. There was not 'nuf food left for a meal, most of what was left was the stuff you put on top of the main food. But I made a nice snack out of corn chips, the last bits of meat, beans, cheese, the sauce made out of mashed green fruit, and sour cream.

Was the chain place Moe’s?

No, it was a place that I can’t say in this thread, but it starts with C and ends with 'le.

Thats not food.

I read this week about Green Eggs and Ham and how it would fit. But, it has one word that won’t work. “I do not like them here nor there, I do not like them…” And then the word that won’t work.

I have a book that is Green Eggs and Ham that a guy changed to the speech from Old Rome. It is a fun book. But it is much worse than the first one in terms of the rule for this thread. That type of speech from Old Rome does not have a lot of one sound words. I skimmed through the book and as far as I can see, there is not one line in it that I can quote in this thread.

Let’s see if I can say this here:

The tongue we speak here has short words to say things that in the speech of Old Rome are made part of words, so those words must have more length since they say both those parts; while in this tongue one can say those parts in two short words. [And some of those parts we do not need to say at all.]

I think you knew that; but I did want to try if I could say it here.

This is the day I work from home. After his nap, the cat came in to ask for more food. I gave him some, just so he would leave me 'lone. But he did not need more food and did not eat much. He just wants food in his dish at all times.

I just want to say that I think this thread is fun. At times I try to come up with ways to do this in real life - at least in my head. There are times that are hard to make it work, which is part of the fun. So, a big thank you to the person who came up with this.

A lot of snow here. At least it is for those who live here. I grew up in the west where there is a lot more snow. I am used to it.
