Because there’s a difference between being mistaken and being sinful. We don’t proseletyze if we think they’re doing what they should be doing, i.e., the Noahide laws. But we certainly think that, say, Christians are mistaken about JC being the Son of G-d and that Muslims are mistaken about Mohammed being the Prophet.

ya know I saw a thread by my good pal hydro in cafe society. There was nothing stupid or flame worthy in it. I was stunned. I thought for just a min that maybe just maybe he was slowly pulling his head out of his ass and becoming a poster on this board. How I was wrong.

Actually, that’s literally untrue. The word which is translated as “sin” actually means something along the lines of “falling short”, “missing the goal”, or “being mistaken”.
Falling short of the truth is precisely what “sin” is, and that’s exactly what you’re suggesting is going on; ergo, you do indeed believe that other religions are sinful. You just don’t realize it yet.

The Greek term, hamartia, apparently has the literal meaning of “falling short,” and I’m told that that’s the precise and non-metaphorical meaning of the Hebrew term. E.g., when David is watching Jonathan practice archery from hiding, with a prearranged code as to where the arrows fall, there’s subtle wordplay in the arrows falling short of the mark.
Which means that the Pauline quote “All men have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God” will also carry meaning in a non-moral context.
Isn’t agnosticism the only “religion” based on truth? What’s wrong with “there may or may not be a god, but we as humans can never know for sure in this existence”?
