While I was mulling what in particular you were objecting to, I see you might have (apart from misquoting me) missed a basic premise:
If a person has faith in religion X, it implies they believe what religion X says about religion Y. To those people, this IS evidence. To you maybe something else is evidence.
My major point was the unfairness of the style of argument: namely, everything we say is correct, and any other source you site – including ones you’ve know well and have used heavily in the past are wrong.
Greensabre, I’ve been drawing a distinction between the BOM and Mormon faith for just this reason – I’m doubtful Jesus would appreciate attacking someone’s faith in God. However that doesn’t mean Jesus was all sweet and apple pie when confronting beliefs that were wrong.
As a child I belonged to a fringe church that used to repeat “Children of light, as ye go forth into the world, seek to render gentle service to all that live.” Jesus might have agreed. But it isn’t right to attribute it to him.
In other words according to you it is reasonable for a person of a particular religion to abdicate their own sense of judgment, in favour of the teachings of their religion. If you want to do that, fine. I personally have no respect for such an approach.
Monty, it was roleplay. a girl can be perfectly suited to play the part of a guy during role play. Additionally, I’m new to the boards, so I’m prolly not familiar with the genders of some here. If you would like me to not ever make a mistake on this again, you can e-mail me your gender and I’ll… uh… keep it on records…
anyway, this debate has gotten FAR off topic. Originally, it started about the BOM and it’s gone to being about the whole religion. Granted, the religion is heavily based upon the BOM, I say we get back on track.
Monty: I challenge you to a duel!
Bible verses at 20 paces!
Of course, your scriptures, all combined in one book, would be enough to knock out someone larger than I…
