Thanks for the clarification. I think you’re right; there’s apparently only one grade of admiral.
Here’s how I’d change the division colors…
Keep Science/Medical green, and Engineering orange. Change Security/Tactical to blue. Make Command be the purple that admirals have. Change admirals to white. The white would really stand out and go well with the black and gold.
Ditching the red would further differentiate the uniforms from Starfleet in Star Trek. Blue/Green/Orange/Purple/White would be very different from Red/Blue/Gold.
Episode 10:
A chubby chase!
The brick joke falls!
The king!
So many guests!
A not bad season finale.
This season was pretty light on comedy, but it seems like they were saving all the jokes for this episode! I absolutely loved it, especially Bortus as Elvis
To me the uniforms look clearly like stage costumes rather than actual clothes. The giant plastic epaulettes are hideous.
According to the The Orville Wiki, there is a rank of “Vice Admiral” but they provide no examples and I don’t think we’ve ever seen one on screen.
I read the novella today. Very good. There is also an audiobook read by Bruce Boxleitner. Available in the Amazons and Apples.
ETA: On second thought, I reckon I’ll not link to tvtropes and spoilers
As it stands it would fit - and was intended to - as an episode between 3.8 and 3.9. I’ve read several Trek novellas & such; it’s profound for Seth to publish this story in this medium.
We’ll viddy the finale tonight. Looking forward to another series/season!
Best line of the night, “Very well. I shall assemble the fleet.”
Well, a very special end to a very special season - all kidding aside, I doubt I will rewatch it - I’ve rewatched season 1 and 2 multiple times - and likely will again - but this season, nah - all kidding aside.
the wedding prep and wedding were amusing. all those ships…wonder how they whittled down the guest list.
I kind of tuned out when it became obvious this was a “wedding episode.” I watched it to the end, but my attention was in and out.
And the whole Lysella plot seemed like it should have happened way earlier in the series, like first season.
We couldn’t figure out who Lysella was- even though we’ve been watching the series since its inception, we must have somehow missed that episode, because neither the actress nor the references to her first episode rang any bells for us. I ended up looking up a synopsis of the episode.
That’s one of the things that has really bothered me this season- they’ve been referencing previous episodes quite heavily, but with the pandemic delays it’s just been too long since we’ve seen those episodes. An optional “Previously on The Orville” synopsis would help quite a bit.
I did the same thing, then went “Oh, THAT episode.” I only saw it one time because we disliked it so much the first time, we skipped over it when re-watching.
Yeah, when they said LaMarr wouldn’t want to go to the planet, I thought they were referring to the “trial by twitter” episode, but I had no memory of Lysella. That episode aired almost 5 years ago, and hasn’t been mentioned a single time since.
And it’s a good thing LaMarr wasn’t sitting in when Isaac called Primary - he might have had a comment or two on marriage when Primary asked if Isaac was being enslaved.
Had Lamar had his grapefruit juice conversation with Claire yet?
There have been a few times this season they could have done a better job catching viewers up with past events but I liked this episode. They were having conversations I always imagined happening on Star Trek about the Federation.
And it was a good slice-of-life episode. No major crises, just a lot of small things going on all at about the same time. These people have lives, not just adventures. While at the same time giving us a deeper look into the culture of the Union.
My only complaint about this episode is I would have liked them to at least show the Orville’s conversation with the Researchers on the Social Media planet. It felt like a dangling thread and it would have been a great opportunity to catch viewers up if they had forgotten the previous episode.
Bortus and the Kaylons were a trip. Co-ordinated setting and standing. Klyden was even a trip. “Hooray!”
I did find it curious that the Union has the equivalent of the Prime Directive and do not distribute technology, but they still have wars and devices that can kill an entire race, although I have trouble accepting the toasters as a race.
Let me be more succinct. The Union slew thousands, changed sides, slew their former allies, yet they will not attempt to improve the lives of a planet that is executing people for jay walking. Give everyone a replicator, and there will be no way for businesses to make money over them, no need for countries to go to war over them. There are probably other difficulties; perhaps they replicators can be converted into weapons, but the Union appears to me to be pretty stuck up and holier than thou.
Probably replicators need like a gigawatt of electricity each to operate. So you would have to give them a whole new power infrastructure, too.
