I liked the Reunion as well. LOT of people missing this year. Angelina Jolie wans’t there was she? I heard her Oscar dress was stolen. Maybe she couldn’t find a replacement.
I was really surprised a few of the folks in the alumni. I didn’t know some of them had Oscars.
Mary Steenburgen was one of them. She also looked REALLY good. Has she had some serious plastic surgery or what? I almost didn’t recognize her!
Adrien Brody kissing Halle Berry. I just know if I were him, I’d be thinking, “Oh screw it, why not?” I’d go for it too. You just won the Oscar…why not go for the kicker? She seemed to find it funny/cute too.
Jack Nicholson as gay joke. His reaction was great too.
Michael Moore. Unlike others of you, I think he’s way off and compeltely wrong, but I like that he blurts what he believes out. He did exactly what was expected of him and didn’t make it look like he was “just doing what was expected of him”. I totally disagree with him, but liked him.
Kirk and Michael Douglas. They were natural and funny together. Michael’s reaction when Kirk told him to speak disticntly was perfect. Seriously, I know it isn’t a big point, but if you see it again, watch how he misses a beat there. Perfect. At first, I thought Kirk was let down with the winner, but was happy to seem them piece their paper together. And they nailed saying it together! I also liked hearing, “The winner is” instead of “The Oscar goes too”.
I noticed that Nell Carter wasn’t shown/mentioned in the montage of people who passed away…anyone know why? They showed her performing in a previous montage of something or other, but not the memorial bit.
I noticed this, too. After checking the IMDb, I see that she died toward the end of January 2003. My best guess is that the montage is based on the calendar year just like the nominees must be. So I’d wager that she’ll be included in next year’s montage. She has about 10 movie credits on her listing at the IMDb, and was pretty well known, so I’d be surprised if she wasn’t included.
I apologize for saying “technical” awards for “artistic”. I should know better living out here in Southern California.
To be precise in Michael Moore’s acceptance speech, he used the word “fictition” in place of “fiction” once. I think he was getting a little bit carried away and turning into Yogi Berra.
I liked the reunion, too. IMHO, it was well done, especially the split screen bit so we got to see them in their role, accepting the Oscar, and how they look now.
See, I felt the opposite, that he was just doing what was expected of him. At this point, I don’t know if he even has any real feelings about this stuff – he seems to enjoy being the gadfly, and so plays that role.
Where was Russell Crowe, Kevin Spacey - both of whom I wanted to see, Ben Affleck - cause I know I saw him with J-Lo in the audience, Matt Damon, Robin Williams, Kim Basinger, Billy Bob Thorton, Ron Howard and Brian Grazer?, and probably others, they just come to mind, right now.
It seems the Academy does these reunions for the older actors, who can’t get any attention, except to be the Old Hollywood. Some of them I swear they are ready to take a Dirt Nap.
The Reunion was only for winners of acting categories, which is why no Ben Affleck/Mat Damon (they won for Best Screenplay). Damon hasn’t won for anything else has he? I don’t know if any of the others you mentioned were in attendance.
Well, these were only Acting winners, so that rules out Damon, Thornton, Howard, and Grazer.
Nell Carter was not a movie star–she was a stage & TV star. Robert Urich made a movie or two but was not included either. Now John Agar, where the heck was he???
“Mickey! We would’ve given you a better seat, but Vin Diesel is here!”
I sort of expected him to say something along the lines of “I hope your husband doesn’t kill me,” but Adrien as arrogant was the furthest thing from my mind. I thought he was genuine and his kiss - obviously unplanned and unexpected by Halle Berry - showed his joy. Halle’s expression at the end of the long kiss looked more “Woah!” than “Ew!”. I would hope that Eric Benet is more secure. I don’t know Halle, but she didn’t seem to be damaged by it – she seems like she would understand the excitement of the moment.
The spouse that has the right to be pissed off would be Denzel Washington’s wife last year, after seeing Julia Roberts surgically attach herself to Denzel.
It was interesting to see who could take a joke (Jack Nicholson) and who couldn’t (Jennifer Lopez).
He won for Gladiator, but IMO - he should have won for A Beautiful mind, didn’t catch him in the audience, if he was there, why couldn’t he have been in the Reunion.
Come to think about it, Where was Cher, and Gwyneth Paltrow?
There were alot of Oscar Winning Younger Actors/Actresses who were not there, and it was the 75th Oscars - 50th year of showing on TV.
I didn’t realize it was only for Actors/Actresses who won Oscar.
I got the most unfortunately-timed ten-minute phone call and missed Michael Moore’s speech. While I can probably catch it on the net somewhere, I’m curious - what did Steve Martin say afterwards?
Salma Hayek gave the Best Foreign Film Oscar to the producers of Nowhere in Africa (which beat out Mexico’s El Crimen de Padre Amaro) with all the enthusiasm of a granite brick. Is it really that hard for the Academy to find presenters that aren’t obviously biased in favour of one film over the others? (I know, it allows for those nice weepy moments, but still…)
Kudos to the Academy for acknowledging Adrien Brody and Roman Polanski. Nice to see Martin Scorcese as the first one standing to applaud Polanski’s selection.
How about Catherine Zeta-Jones and Queen Latifah singing at the Oscars. Queen Latifah needs to sing alot more, I am not apart of her core audience, I know who she is, but she blew me away with her singing in Chicago - the movie and then last night live. If she did a Jazz/Blues CD - I’d buy it, and become apart of her audience or is that her subjects. Anyway, I didn’t know she could sing so good, I just that she was a rapper.
Catherine Z-J sings really well also, she also blew me away in the movie and live. Looks like i’m going to have to get the Chicago Sound Track now to her these two girls sing. Maybe CZJ - will parlay into a singing career as well as movie career.
