Trump has been considering forming a third party after he leaves office; the “Patriot Party.” Will anything ever come of this? Trump, of course, does not posses the organizational and administrative know-how, much less the willingness to perform all the hard work required for an endeavor of this magnitude. No doubt he likes the idea, but the question remains would others with greater talent and resources be willing to do this undertaking on his behalf?
Hey, if it fractures the Republican party so badly that they can never win another election, I’m all for it.
I could see him doing it to spite McConnell and the establishment Republicans. I think it could be good, provided that this doesn’t encourage progressives to split from the Democrats.
If he does it, it’ll be because he can make money from it. He won’t care whether it hurts the GOP or not.
From what I understand, the two party system comes from the voting system. Third parties don’t stand a chance. He could start a party, but it won’t go anywhere unless the voting system is changed.
Wait, what? The progressives would be joining the Patriot Party? Or do you mean they would start their own party?
Read the platform for the Constitution Party. They would love to have him and all of the Trumpanistas
Who wants to tell him? (Can it be me, please?)
No, but I could see hardcore progressives splitting from centrist democrats out of frustration, particularly if the party of Biden tries hard to curry favor with establishment Republicans.
I hope he does. It would be really good for the USA to have a third party, as that might encourage a fourth party. American politics should really be split four or five ways. I’m going to use the American point of view for describing the parties even though really most parties in America are further right in a more global view.
So, the USA really has:
Progressives (far-left)
Democracts (center-left)
Republicans (center-right)
Fascists (far-right)
And one could argue a Libertarian party as well.
If Trump starts the fascist party that will allow the Republicans to return to normalcy, which would be good for the USA.
And yes, having an extreme far-right party is spooky. But other nations have such parties and they’ve survived. It gives the extremists a chance to be politically expressed, and keep their poison out of the mainstream politics.
Oh, for sure. The progressives have been talking about doing a third party run even before Trump. I was just confused about the comment in regards to The Patriot Party.
Third parties don’t win elections. What they do accomplish is force the mainstream parties to adopt (some of) their policies or face siphoning votes away and throwing elections to the opposing mainstream party.
I don’t see how having a fascist party helps America in any way, shape, or form. The last thing we want to see is a mainstream GOP doing any more than it already has to embrace extremist views.
Trump has always wanted to be in the middle of a P party.
And one that ends in a riot.
An effective third party could supplant one of the two existing parties. Not that trump would be capable of organizing such an animal.
There are already fascist Americans, and they vote Republican. This doesn’t mean that all Republicans are fascist, just that if someone is a fascist, and they vote, they’re predominantly voting Republican. This forces the Republicans to at a minimum give them lip service with a “wink wink know what I mean”. Having an explicit extreme-right party makes such dealings explicit. For example, in France, if a party votes along with the National Front (their fascist party) then it is quite visible. The National Front’s ideology is also quite visible, which means people know what they stand for. It isn’t as hidden under a big tent party which is all the USA has right now.
Of course, having a fascist ideology in a country is not ideal. There are fascists in Canada too. I don’t like it, but I certainly don’t want a major party having to work with them or if they’re going to work with them I want it to be explicit so the electorate can judge.
Yeah, I can’t wait for every Presidential election to end up in the House of Representatives.
It’s about time we had a party that puts America first.
I wanted a good anagram of Patriot Party that included “riot”, but nothing available beats “to pry it apart”
God, this would be wonderful news. I hope he does it. Then, I could leave the Dem party and become a Rep, well, at least after all of the crazy went with him.
