The perfect gift this holiday season!

Looking for that perfect gift for a friend or loved one? Name a rock after them! For a mere $48 (plus shipping and handling) the International Rock Regestry will register a rock from my back yard with the name of your choice!

Since 1979 the International Rock Registry has been naming rocks and registering this information in the copyright office of the Library of Congress of the United States of America. What could be a more timeless gift?

The International Rock Registry gift package includes:

  • A suitable-for-framing parchment featuring the name, dedication date, general location of the rock and speculation on whether the rock is Igneous, Sedimentary or Metamorphic.

  • A fascinating booklet on geology.

Because these rock names are copyrighted with their coordinates in the book “Your Place in Inky’s Back Yard,” future generations may identify the name in the directory and, by visiting my tomato patch, locate the actual rock in question (or a good approximation).

Truly this is the gift of immortality. Act now!

I’d rather name one of your tomatos.

Bah, cheap skate! I’ve bought my pet rock a full winter ensamble from Saks!

Heh. I’m already giving a rock-related gift this Christmas. I’m going to give my roommate a pebble in a box, with “food” (sand) and instructions and then sneak into his room occasionally to switch in a bigger rock (so it “grows”).

I’ll do Inky one better, for free, yes my friends, free, you can have a rock of your very own. And you can take it with you. I have a nice size pile in my backyard. Come and get them. Take all you want. I’ll even supply the wheelbarrow.
